My worst nightmare is that some day I will have to put Megan in an aged care facility when we are no longer able to look after her, as there is nothing to meet the needs of young disabled people.
I saw on the Today show that some people are walking from Canberra to Sydney to raise funds and awareness and build a "YOUNG CARE FACILITY" in Sydney to meet a growing demand for young adult nursing care.
I don't know if I am allowed to post the website but if you google Young Care Walk it will take u too their web page. Please support them I think it's a wonderful cause.
P.S. I don't know them and are no way affiliated with this organisation, just a special needs mummy looking to the future.
I think young care is fantastic.. the first house was made near me and there was so much celebration!
:hugs:

Yep there has been some really big pushes of late to get special care organised for younger persons.
I really think this is a worthwhile cause !!!!
So many of my mums friends when younger were in aged care from the time they were teens due to Polio ... Totally heartbreaking.
I really hope they build more of them around
I know there is a place called Lady laurdy in Claremont WA that takes them up will they are 18 i not sure where they go from there, sadly i know of a few that went sraight there from neonates

Im not too sure of the details but on the Central Coast I heard they are going to be building a purpose built facility for young people with disabilities that live permanantly in care instead of them being placed into an aged care facililty.
It really is something that this country needs more of isn't it.
It is awful to think that young people are being put into these aged care facilities.
I am so glad they are finally doing something about it!
Just thought i would let anyone that isin brissy know that there is an excellent respite centre for younger adults on the north side.
If you want to know details pm me.

I'm not sure where you are all located, however I know of a place through friends whose children go there called "Allowah Children's Hospital" in Sydney.
The website is www.allowah.org.au (http://www.allowah.org.au)
I believe they take children 0-16 with severe physical/intellectual disabilities and my friend is very happy with the care there.
