I was thinking of taking a short holiday to Sydney to catch up with extended family before my son is born as sitting around the house doing nothing is sending me insane .

Is it safe to fly while pregnant and if so, what is the latest you can fly up to during your pregnancy....

I am 25 weeks tomorrow.

most airlines won't take you after 37wks for international flights (although some have flowen without telling the airline)

and for national its up to 36wks with most airlines

I flew interstate at 36 weeks (2hr flight) but it was uncomfortable. Just don't go through xray machine thingies, have a nice pat down instead.

I heard you may need a letter from your doctor confirming your due date if there is any problem (ie if they wont let you fly becuase they believe you are further along than you say you are). Dont know if its true. Couldnt hurt to ring ahead though. I always thought it was a fluid/pressure thing like with your ears, but I think its a labour concern thing.

Dont have a clue really, so not much help, just thought Id post a comment!

em, you probably shouldn't go through any sort of x-ray thing because you shouldn't get an x-ray during pregnancy...

But I don't think you go through an x-ray thing. Isn't that thing a metal detector? You pass your bags and stuff in your pockets through the x-ray machine... but I don't think YOU actually go through one (the thing you walk through just beeps if there's a problem, not scans your insides...:p).

Domestically, anything before 36 weeks is generally fine. Anything past that they often require notes from your doctor before they will agree...

Hi!

I'll be 34 weeks pregnant in a couple of days, and am flying from Sydney to Brisbane for a friend's wedding when i'll be 37 weeks.

I'm flying with Qantas - their policy is that you can fly right up until your due date WITHOUT medical clearance if you're having a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy. I emailed them and they said it would probably be a good idea to have a letter from my OB to carry with me saying I am fit to travel (my OB is checking me out the day before to make sure the little one isn't planning on making an early entrance!). I guess they wouldn't know if your pregnancy is "normal and uncomplicated" unless your doc had given you a letter saying so.

I flew to QLD for a weekend earlier this month at 31 weeks with Virgin Blue, and didn't get asked to provide proof of the stage of pregnancy or anything...

I think they just want to make sure you're not going to give birth on the plane...

Hi, I'm flying to Spain tonight and thing about the x-ray machine got me worried so I googled it. It is a metal detector and fine to go through. The baggage x-ray scanner is OK to walk next to, no problem. Whew!
