DS wears a couple of monkey doodles AIOs and I find they are really stinky as soon as he wees in them even though they arent soaked and smell ok clean and dry. And its only the monkey doodles I have the problem with

Anyone else have this problem?? Any ideas on how to limit it?? At the mo as soon as he wees in it the pong drives me bonkers and I have to change him. It also makes it tough with dry pailing as they burn my nostrils after being in the bucket a day or 2

Stinky nappies are generally caused by either too much or too little detergent, the trick is figuring out which one. :detective:

If you are using only a very small amount of detergent then try using more. If you are using a reasonable amount try washing them again with hottish water with no detergent and see if there are any bubbles in the wash.

Washing machines can get a detergent/softeners build up inside them, so even if you aren't using much detergent in the nappy load there can be more hidden detergent or softeners getting in.

If you have a new ultra low water machine you might need to see if you can manually increase the amount of water used in the load. My machine can't do that so we have figured out we have to wash the nappies twice now, once with detergent and once without to get them clean and non stinky. It's a good job we don't use many nappies now

:detective: Could this be true if only one nappy is effected though?? It doesn't smell before he wears it only once he has done a wee in it and none of his other nappies have the same issue. I also would be lucky to use a tablespoon of detergent for a small load of nappies (my dh refuses to have them washed with our clothes now)

OMG me too! I thought it was just that my kids have stinky wee

I loved the Doodlez in the beginning but they're my 2nd choice now, after the BumGenius' are all in the wash.

I'll try a strip wash with them but I agree Mack - I'll do a whole load of different kinds of nappies, and only the Doodlez will smell icky. And after he's wee'd in it, it is really revolting.
I usually just leave them out on the line for twice as long as normal, to try to sun-bleach them a bit more.

I do love the Doodlez though, am generally very happy with them. In fact they fit my nearly-7 year old for night-times, so I love the generous sizing.

Thankgod Im not alone :) One wee and I cant even stand to sit beside him. Its such a shame as they were so absorbant for a AIO and one of the few he doesnt try and take off because of the overlapping centre bit

If you mean the other nappies are different types then absolutely. Every nappy brand has a different fabric composition which could mean one holds smells or doesn't wash properly in the same conditions as another nappy.

The MD is an AIO which is always going to need more to clean it than a pocket nappy for example. You're using minimal detergent by the sounds so I'd be inclined to use a bit more to see if that helps. Perhaps even give the clean MD a couple of washes in with your other loads to give it some extra washing and then rinse it thoroughly. It is a fine line sometimes between too much and too little detergent, other times it's much less delicate but you do need enough to get the water to penetrate and clean the inner layers of your AIOs.
