**bowing before your superior experience**

how many hemp/microfibre inserts do I need for my clothies?

And I have bought 6 Green nappies and 6 Bee ones. Will that be enough?

Signed
Come on - lay some smugness on me.:D

I used aWeewuns microfibre boosters. Looks like about three layers overlocked into a pad. Thay dry pretty well, keeping in mind hemp will take longer to dry. One of each per nappy should be ok.

I have a friend who uses 8 Green Kids pocket nappies on rotation. 8... I marvel at how she does it, as i have a combination of nappy types and 8 wouldn't cut it (I'd easily have 24-30). But because pockets and their stuffers dry quickly, it works for her. a dozen nappies will possibly work for you to start with, you will just need to work out a routine that means you are never short!

good luck!

The bee ones will come with extra snap in boosters. I just fold the really long one into thirds and that seems to do the trick nicely.

I reckon you will need an insert for each pocket nappy. Easiest way I think.

Well i went overboard & got the pack of 50 boosters from Greens LOL but then im that type of person who gets worried that X amount isnt enough :o
Anyways i would say you pretty much need one per nappy you have got & then maybe a couple extra for back up.
I use just the one microfibre each nappy & this last me around 3 to 4hrs & i have a heavy wetter but if i want to be sure like if we are going out i throw in a small hemp booster just in case we cant make a nappy change exactly on time ( poos are different of course ! ) but for nite i use a hemp booster that folds to 8 layers which i wrap around the microfibre & this gives us a good 12hrs overnite no dramas :smiliedance:

Oh & on my way out i shall say dont worry once that parcel arrives you shall be MammaSmugness yourself :p :D

My boy is a big, big wetter and I use a piece of hemp with microfibre sandwiched in the middle folded into three and an extra piece of microfibre folded in three and in half again for the middle, so all up 4 layers of hemp and 9 layers of microfibre. I know it sounds like a lot but it's still surprisingly trim and I found I needed the extra piece of microfibre otherwise he could easily wet through within 10 minutes of putting the nappy on. These layers can last him about three hours, sometimes more if he has a big daytime sleep.

I have about 24 homemade pockets and can normally get through three days before I need to wash, if you wash at the end of the day you should be fine. :)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge once again.

Can I ask another question?

With the Green Pockets - do I need their special prefolds or can I use something else?

You can stuff pockets with whatever you like (I'd suggest something absorbent though  I'm so hilarious).

From my (brief) look at their website, their prefolds looked pretty expensive. Do you like to sew? It's not too expensive to buy hemp or microfibre and it's dead easy to cut it up to the size you want and sew it. I've also seen some boosters sold on ebay fairly cheap (but haven't bought any) so maybe you could try something like that?

I should add if you are into sewing it's not that hard to make your own nappies and it's much cheaper than buying them. Just a thought :)

Appreciate that. :)

I had been wondering about the costs of the prefolds. My sewing skills and time options are limited so I think I will just stick to making the prefolds.

Guess I'll be taking that visit to Spotlight soon. :D

Yep try ebay for some cheap inserts !
I have now gotten some hemp from "Baby Bloomers" & "Sunshine Kids" now while the sunshine kids are smaller as in only part the size of a pre-fold they are great !
So ive been using as i said either the Baby Bloomers hemp wrapped around the microfibre or a microfibre with 2 of the Sunshine Kids inserts on top with absolutely no dramas ! Otherwise the Sunshine Kids hemp is the perfect size for Eenees !
You can buy microfibre from your supermarket so really cheap !
Not sure about hemp i do believe Harry's Mum can help on that front as she as bought some previously.
Spotlight is great for polar fleece etc !
Oh my how i was in there the other day just droooling over the possibilities !!! :D

YOu can't buy hemp at Spotlight. Try Big W for microfibres, they came in a packet of 3 for $3.60ish. You will find them in the cleaning section.

You can buy hemp from Bubba Earth (http://www.bubbaearth.com.au/)

All you have to do is cut them intp the size you want and do a straight srtitch or a zig zag stitch around them. I'm a complete beginner at sewing and I managed to sew up 12 from 2m of hemp.
