well my little man arrived quietly on the 13.3.2008 at 3.13 pm.
my day started off great as i called the hospital to ask if they had a bed so i could be induced and they were so quiet the middy told me to come in then. it took us an hour to get ready and arrive at the hospital. we arrived at 6.30am and they checked me (3cm's) and broke my waters. all clear and good. they gave me 30 minutes to start labour before they put the drip in and i was contracting about 5 minutes apart but not too ouchie yet. so they put the drip in. after failing to put the drip in both of my hands (vein blowouts) the middy got someone else to put one in my left wrist. so i have some nice bruises on the backs of my hands.
because of my history of blood clots i had a funky little machine with these stockings that went around my legs and blew up to squeese my legs every few minutes to help with blood flow. it was strange as it was kinda in time to a contraction. it helped to concentrate on the machine instead of the contractions. after a while the pains started getting too much for me so they put an epidural in and it worked great down my left side but my right was only numb to the top of my thigh. so after trying a few different positions we had to get the epi pulled back out a little and topped up and finally i was pain-free.
they got a little concerned about my breathing as the epi was so high that i couldn't feel the ice-cube until it was just under my breasts so they had to keep rolling me from side to side.
when the pains started returning they got permission to top me up and that didn't work very well. i could still feel the pains on the right side but not as bad as the first time. i was checked and told i could start pushing as bubs was about halfway down. no wonder i could feel heaps of pressure down there. so i started pushing about 2.45pm. the head looked like it was coming out face up but he turned at the last minute and came out like he was supposed. after delivering the head we noticed the cord was wrapped pretty tightly around his neck which explained the dips in heartbeat during a contraction. the middy slipped the cord off and then we noticed his hand was coming out before his shoulders. in the next push the hand and shoulders arrived and then the rest of him just slipped out. he was placed up on my chest and rubbed with a towel to stimulate him into breathing. he was breathing but a bit blue so the cord was cut and he was taken to get a little bit of oxygen. he soon pinked up and was placed back on my chest for a feed and some more cuddles. dh started calling family to tell them that we had a baby boy. then we had him weighed and measured. and finally decided on his name,
Daniel John ...
