Hi

Just curious to see how much other people's children drink. My DS is 3 and a half weeks old and is on S26 gold. I mix 3 scoops of formula with 120mls of water and he drinks just about all of it every time (can leave up to 40mls) and has 6 feeds a day, anywhere between 3 and 4 hourly, sometimes 5 hours at night.

I know the back of the tin says 2 scoops per 60 mls but he seemed hungry from 1 week old so I made it stronger and he took it no problems. My daughter was the same, she always got more formula than it indicates and she is happy and healthy.

Interested to see if there are any others out there with a similar situation. Advice is always welcome. :)

If you were making up 120mls - wouldn't you need 4 scoops of formular - otherwise it would be too watery?

I don't see a prob with the amount he having, from memory my DS drank about the same and would sometimes leave about 20-40mls in every second bottle.

I wouldn't mess with the ratio of formula to water as I believe it can make bub sick. If you think your baby needs more and want to add an extra scoop, why not add the extra water as well???

The tin guide is only that, some babys may want more and some less. I know my daughter has more for her age, she is 9 weeks and taking 150mls every 4hrs, when she was 3 weeks she was taking 70 mls every 3hrs. If you think your son is hungry after a feed maybe just give him more ????

 as someone previously said... only use the tin as a guide but please make sure u put the reccommended scoops per water ratio... if bubs is still hungry after two scoops in 120mls then make 180 with three scoops... messing with the ratio can make bubs sick.... because the balance on the tin (vitiamins, protien, nurtients etc) are all according to thier water intake as well.... there is nothing wrong with giving bubba more than the tin says... just with more water as well:)

hope that wasnt too harsh.

Isnt s26 1 scoop per 60ml? I used it awhile ago and this is what I remember. So 120ml should only be using 2 scoops. I highly recommend you follow the guide of scoops to water ratio, you could make your baby ill in the long run. If he is hungry, make him up more, as in 180ml with 3 scoops.

My 8 month old is on karicare now and she is only having 3 bottles a day, 200ml each.

My son is on fortified formula but that has been approved by a paed. If you do over fortify they can end up with kidney problems so please do check with your Dr first.
