Hi liveinhope, there is a clomid thread.
Basically it is used to induce ovulation if you are not ovulating, however it is also the first line of treatment in unexlained infertility.
It can produce more eggs, hence increasing your chances of at least one fertilising. It can also improve egg quality.
You are often monitored with ultrasound to see how the folicles are developing, however this appears to be more the case if you were not ovulting on your own previously.

I am going back to my gyno, and i suspect i will be referred to a Fertility Specialist. However from lots of research and talking with long term TTC bubhubbers, the normal course of treatment if you decide to try Fertility Treatment, is Clomid, followed by IUI (Inter-uterine insemination) - this is sometimes used in conjunction with clomid, basically they wash the sperm to make sure only the best quality stuff remains, and using a very fine tube insert it right up in the uterine cavity. Basically gives everything a helping hand, saves the sperm swimming up there!
These are cheaper and less invasive options. I think Clomid is about $30 a month, IUI is around $500, don't know if that includes ultrasounds etc. After them, of course comes IVF, and different methods and levels of technicality also - ie putting the sperm in the petri dish right next to the egg to fertilise, or ICSI, where they actually inject the sperm right into the egg. From what i have read, prices vary dramatically from $2 000 - $10 000
Anyway, i'm no expert! The Clomid girls and long term TTC and assisted reproduction girls know more than me.
