I'm not pregnant yet but we will be starting to ttc in late April. In November we have a trip to Perth planned and I think this is a 4 or 5 hr trip.
The 3 times I have been preg it has been within a 3 mth period so I was thinking quite possibly I may be in the 1st tri.
Really would like to know if any ladies did 'fly' while in their 1st or 2nd tri/s??
I think I recall the books saying that you shouldn't on the 1st tri but if any1 did pls share your exp' if you would:-)

I used to travel a bit for work and flew when I was about 2 months, 4 months and 6 months pregnant. I never had a major problem but did get a bit of extra swelling (fluid retention) at the 6 month mark.

Virgin Blue were great and gave me front row seating, carried my bags etc.:)

I believe you can fly up to 36 weeks without dramas. After that you just need permission from your doc but every airline could be difefrent. That was Qantas.

I flew when I was about 26 weeks without any dramas. A bit sore from sitting in one spot for a while but that was all.

Good luck with TTC! :D

I flew really early in this preg - about 5 - 6 weeks. No probs other than being a bit queasier than normal when the plane banked during takeoff & landing.

As far as I'm aware as long as you are healthy you can fly safely until about 36 weeks, even then the only reason the airlines won't let you is in case you go into labour on the plane. I guess DVT might be a bit more likely so with a 5 hr trip you might be wise to move around the plane a bit more than you would normally. I think you are only advised against flying in non-pressurised aircraft in the 1st tri.

Good luck TTC! :)

All of the above. I flew with my twins at 18 weeks and then again at about 24 weeks I think. No problems

Hi Cara's Mum,

I am currently 25 weeks and flew about 2 weeks ago - so i was 23 weeks preg. And i also did the syd to perth. The only problem i had was that it was an 11.15pm flight and i found it really difficult to sleep. Apart from that it was all fine. I asked the doc before we go and he said to fly not later than 36 weeks. Hope that helps

I was flying for work every month from the start of my preg up to week 22 with no problems. I was flying on Rex's tiny Metros for over 2 hours at a time with no toilet on board! Scary stuff!

Most books I read said to contact the airline for their policy, but I think that's more so as you get much further along in to it, ie they don't want someone giving birth on a flight!
