Hi
I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. Two weeks ago I had bleeding so I went to the hospital to get it checked out. They said I had 5mls of blood next to the placenta. I went back last week to get checked out again as the bleeding had stopped and wanted to make sure everything was ok. This time they told me I had a sub-chorionic haematoma (a blood clot). They told me there is a small chance of miscarriage and to just take it easy. Has this ever happened to anybody before. Did it clear up by itself? Was the baby ok?
Thanks
Natalie

Hi Natalie, sorry to hear you are having bleeding. I had a sub-chorinic heamatoma at about 8 weeks. I totally freaked out cause I have had two previous miscarriages....so I thought here we go again. But I am happy to say I am now 20 weeks. The heamatoma healed itself. I just took it very easy. Didn't lift anything, didn't do much at all really. Laid down as much as possible. It's very scary I know. My only advice is to rest as much as possible. If the blood colour starts to go brownish it's a good sign. Means its old blood and it might be healing. Good luck. Hope all goes well.

Hi Natalie,

I too am 10 weeks pregnant and have had terrible cramps and a LOT of bleeding since week 6. I have had 4 u/s and show that the little bub is doing okay, but that I have a sub-chorionic bleed. Mind you I only know this by researching myself, my OB uses the old term "threatened miscarriage". Any way, I have found some really interesting stories that put my mind at ease, as to what was happening with my body. There is no greater disappointment when you are pregnant, to go to the toilet and see a LOT of blood, or FEEL the blood passing.

I have had one previous M/C too. So sorry for your previous losses. BUt looking at these stories, I hope you feel better too.

All will be fine, we have to believe that....REST up, and hope to hear the positive news as you go along.

Hugs

I had a sub-chorionic haemotoma as well, and bled from 6 weeks till 11 weeks and then again at 14 weeks.

I found the following helped me - REST - I stayed in bed pretty much from week 7 to 11. I didn't even walk or do anything!

then at week 10 I changed 2 things which I believe made all the difference to the bleeding:

I stopped taking supplements (folate, iron) which had caused me constipation and straining - I am not at all suggesting this as a good thing to do (and I did try to supplement with huge dietary changes for both folate and iron) but for me personally I found it may have had an impact

I also stopped eating our favourite spag bog after finding out that oregano is herbally considered to be a uterine irritant and can stimulate bleeding.

but by far and away the bed rest made the most difference. I was told it was of no consequence, but even walking out the front door and to the side fence would set off fresh bright red blood so I was pretty convinced hat rest v's physical activity did make all the difference.

Good luck with your pregnancies. Even though it is scarey scarey, sometimes it does work out - I have a wonderful 6 month old daughter.

Hi, I had to have an emergency scan last week, Which showed that I had a small Bleed in between my placenta and Uterus. The foetus itself was well and had a strong heartbeat which I was extremely happy to hear. I'm 11 weeks pregnant today and had a miscarriage only a month before I fell pregnant again. I've been told to that I need to rest as much as possible, but find this a little hard to do. I have to have another scan in a weeks time and am hoping that everything is fine.

Wow I started this thread so long ago.

Heres an update. My bleeding stopped after a few days (I think, cant remember) and DS was born at 37 weeks weighing 1900grams with no problems at all.

wow it was a long time ago glad it went well
i had one with dd3, i had a huge bleed at lost about 1/5th of my pg at the time, the bleed was as big as dd3... mine subsided by 28 weeks, and she was induced 2 days after her due date...
with all bleeding in pg, you are at risk of having the baby early, so any signs of labour get it checked out...
my dd3 was a healthy 7lbs 7 at birth... and a dream baby:yelclap: good luck ladies

I too had a huge bleed at 15 weeks. Went to emergency they thought I had had a miscarraige but had an ultrasound in the morning and bubs was fine. They told me that I had a sub-chorionic haematoma. Bleeding eased off after 2 weeks off work. Had my 19 week morphology scan and bub is doing good but I still have that sub-chorionic haematoma. The sonographer said that it was no where near my placenta which leads me to believe that some ppl at the John Hunter are on crack as they said it was under my placenta. Go figure. Cannot seem to get many answers on this condition which is a shame after reading about so many women having the same problem. I spoke to a woman that has been a midwife for yrs and yrs and she said to me UNOFFICIALLY (of coarse) that when you hit the 20 week mark they (docs) bring out the big guns and are more than helpful then. I thought this was a little pathetic but as it happens thats the way it goes. So 3 scans and 3 trips to the hospital I am still non the wiser on what the out comes of having a sub-chorionic haematoma are. Going to the doctors in the next 2 days so any information I recieve I will pass on. Things I have read on the internet about it are very conflicting and sometimes frightin. Wish me luck as I am wishing you all the very best.
