Hi, I hope some on can answer this.. I am weaning my 15 wk old baby off the boob for personal reasons, I am very well educated on BF vs FF so pls do not judge me. We were down to 1 BF a day, first thing in the morning. I am now trying to cut this BF out and so bub has not had boob since Monday morning but I now have a very painful hard, lumpy left boob. My right one is fine.. Is this normal or should I feed the baby to releive the pressure? I was told that weaning would feel like I had razor blads in my boobs but I thought this would be both boobs?? PLs can someone help me as this hurts a lot and I need to know whether this is normal.. Thanks in advance
hop in the shower with warm water on it and massage out the lumps if you cant then go see your gp as some people end up in hospital from mastitis. Also how long have you been weaning for? if its not too long then you may have to take it slower and express a little then decrease it. I also found cold packs and the good old cabbage leaves in the freeezer help and wearing a bra at all times. You could goask your gp for the milk drying up tablets as alot of gp seem to be offering them again ATM
I ended up with lumps 3 weeks after I'd weaned Josh, eventhough I had no hint of them whilst I was weaning. I talked to my GP and he said it was ok to express under a hot shower to get rid of the lumps. It actually didn't take that much to get rid of them and it didn't stimulate my supply again. You will end up sick if you leave the lumps completely alone.

it could be just a blocked milk duct too. I would go see the doctor straight away if you start getting flu symptoms, cause then its mastitis.

I was exactly the same when I weaned my DD 3 yrs ago. It does hurt, doesn't it? That is the trick though, just express a little in the shower and massage the lumps and soon the milk supply will settle down. It took a good 5 or 6 weeks for mine to go completely.
