Dd1 has been off her bottles for 3 days now, but is eating msot foods. out of her 6 teeth i only knew of one that was coming as it caused her alot of distress and pain.
last night she slept fine, right through, but the night beofre that, and just then she woke up absolutely screaming, very unlike my dd. i gave her panadol and cuddles but to no avail, she really just wanted her dummy, so i let her have it. normally she doesn't sleep with dummy as we weaned her off it when she was 4 mths old, but the last nights when she has woken it was the only way to settle her. did i do the wrong thing by doing that?she still has day sleeps without it, but i'm worried she;l bcome dependent on it again. we're having our next bub in 7 weeks and i am freaking that dd is going to go back to her old habits with the dummy, but in saying that , that was 9 mths ago and she might be over that stage as she doe sknow how to self settle.

Honestly? Anything for a peaceful life. If it gave your bub some comfort and you some sleep - then you didn't do the wrong thing. If she becomes dependent on it again, then you wean her off it again.

:iagree:

I wouldn't stress about it too much. She might just need something in her mouth at this stage, and if it makes her feel better, than IMHO it's tonnes better than any medicine - although, yes, that has it's place too.

:iagree: Teething is awful, and its what ever keeps them happy. You might find that when the worst of it is over she wont want the dummy anymore. Only give it to her when she really wants/needs it. You'll be fine, enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!

Hi Musical Mummy,

I don't think you did the wrong thing. If the dummy is helping her sleep, good! My daughter is 3 and still uses hers, only for sleeping however.

My youngest daughter is still teething and most nights when it is bothering her, we do a dose of panadol and some bonjela and her dummy. It soothes them, i find. If your daughter is not taking her bottles, perhaps a bit of bonjela on her gums may help first. I have found that works for me.

Are we supposed to use panadol when they're teething? I just give gel...

DD1's 2yr molars are coming through at the moment and it's a pain - never had a drama with any other teeth - but the bonjella settles her enough for her to sleep, she's just getting up earlier in the morning...

Have you tried teething gel?? I like the Curash one better than bonjella but apparently the sm33 is the best (according to the chemist, who didn't stock the baby one...).

unfortunately dd really hates bonjela. absolutely scream when i put it on, then if she realises i am about to put it on she clamps her mouth shut. i have tried putting it on her dummy first, but she spits it out. i probably only use panadol once a day only when teething, but also have been trying to use the brauer teething liquid.

Have you ever used it on yourself?

DH has when he had an ulcer in his mouth.... it stings to all buggery before numbing... so I'm not surprised she screams when she gets it...

But if you can trick her into it... it does help after the stinging subsides....

And you can use panadol for teething... it even says so on the box. (Nurofen too)
