My OB uses these hospitals and my private health insurance entitles me to use any of them - which doesn't make the decision any easier:rolleyes:
I will be booking tours but just interested if anyone has used these hospitals and what you thought.
Thanks

I have heard that both Cabrini and Jessie McPherson are very good. We have booked tours for both of these for the next week. We are currently ttc but we want to find a hospital now so that we don't have the stress of making that decision after we've conceived. I have also heard that you need to book into Cabrini as soon as you've found out that you are pregnant as it books up very quickly. So Jessie McPherson might be your next best option. The advantages of Jessie McPherson is that they have an emergency department, icu and 24 access to an aneathesitist (excuse me spelling here). I don't know much about Waverley though so can't help you there. Which ob are you using?

Both Cabrini and Jesse mac have great reputations but i have heard some terrible stories, and know people personally that have had BIG problems with waverley, i would avoid them if i was you.
Good luck

Thanks for your replies so far.
Anyway saw my OB yesterday and he's decided to book me into Cabrini.
I'm happy with his choice and it's saved me having to arrange tours and making a decision between 3 hospitals.
Still interested to hear your views if you've had your babies at Cabrini.
Thanks

Great choice...
I had my little one at Cabrini in 2003, it was fantastic. It felt more like a hotel than a hospital. My OB was Dr Freiden.
Two friends recently gave birth at Cabrini and all raved about the stay. The only downside was timing, if you go in at a busy time (as with all hospitals), you may only get a single bed (but private room).
All 3 of us got double beds, husbands stayed over night. Nurses were very understanding, although some nurses were quite strict with the breast feeding techniques. I guess this happens at all hospitals depending on the nurses' personal preferences (although they are suppose to stick to hospital policy).
By the way, if you don't like hospital food (cabrini's was above average), there's always glenferrie rd cafes and restaurants....

defiantely tour all the hospitals. I know that Waverley has had some negative feed back - but I have been three times, once for the birth of my first baby and twice for D&C after miscarriages - and they were awsome - I could not complain at all - except the food was terrible!

I had both my kids at jessie mac!! My ob delivers at jessie and cabrini ... but first time round cabrini was full so we booked into jessie. second time we decided to tour cabrini just to see what it was like ... and we were not overly enthused by what we saw. i know it has a good reputation ... but we found the staff that we encountered to be snobby and we didn't like the atmosphere there.
also we got to the tour a few minutes late so it had already started and when we joined the rest of the couples the lady taking the tour said really rudely ... 'are you sure you're meant to be here'? I wasn't showing yet, but a lot of people do tours before they are even preg so i thought she was pretty rude!!
everyone has different experiences no matter where you go ... i hope wherever you end up giving birth that it is a wonderful experience for you!!
