Hello,
If you live in the Redlands or would like to have you baby at the Mater Private Hospital at Cleveland, I can highly recommend Dr Paul Truscott. He stopped delivering babies during my second preg. but is at it again and is going to deliver to my third.
He is lovely, has five daughters of his own and not in the least bit creepy or unpleasant.
I think he sees women at the Redlands Hospital, Shailer Park and Wynnum, but only delivers at Redlands. If you have private health insurance the Mater at Redlands is really good and far better than the one at South Brisbane. But that is only my opinion.
Good Luck
Hi,
How exciting? I was recommended by another Doctor to Dr. Robert Watson at the North West hospital. He has been great for all of my pregnancy, and it hasn't been without complications. My midwife also recommend Carol Portmann at the RBWH, who is a slightly alternative natural method ob. Bob watson is a very friendly straight down the line, genuine nice person.
Hope that helps. Oh and book soon it is impossible to get in.

Hi there!
I just tried Dr Robert Watson today as I am just nearly 6 weeks along. A very popular doctor indeed. I think that you have to book into him the moment you think the sperm has hit the egg :) But I still got onto another fantastic one anyway, but now with my second pregnancy it's a bummer as my wonderful Obstetrician with my first pregnancy no longer is doing Obstetrics due to the Insurance crisis a few months back and many great Obstetricians are getting out of it. Hence, the other good doctors that are still going have patients coming out of their ears. It is very hard, so get onto it the minute you think you are pregnant.
I have to do the new patient thing all over again and try and get onto someone else's books. If you do find a fab one, sick with them as you wil need them for subsequent pregnancies as going through the new patient thing with your second pregnancy is a hassle. Just hope that they don;t decide to get out of it due to insurance too. Darn insurance stopping Obstricians practicing as it costs to much. A lot of fantastic doctors have gotten out of obstetrics.

Hi - was going to say Fiona Dalzell as well - I couldn't get into her but know of her from many years ago when she was a training doctor & she was just a lovely person - so imagine she's a very nice OB :)
Dr Scott Salisbury is nice too - not sure if he's doing deliveries again though yet - he took some time off.

Hi there,
I had Dr. Kilvert for my second, he was excellant and didn't charge any booking fee or anything else except normal appointment fees. That was in 2003, so I don't know if that is still the case. He delivers at the Mater and the Wesley.
We've been seeing Dr. Doug Keeping on Wickham Tce. He operates out of the Mater Hospital and has beeen fantastic. Very professional but not cold or aloof. My wife is really comfortable with him and from my perspective this was the most important aspect of finding an OB. Another consideration is, of course fees, Dr. keeping has a no gap policy and no exorbitant "booking fee". We've heard nothing but glowing reports from others and his office staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Hi!
Just have to put in another plug for Dr Watson (or Dr Bob as we called him :) ). He delivers at the North West Private Hospital. Great hospital by the way!! Dr Watson was the most fantastic Dr! He helped us to conceive our darling baby through IVF and was so supportive the whole way through the fertility treatment and through my pregnancy. He was open to our ideas of how we wanted to birth our child - not that it happened that way though... We ended up having an emergency caesarean, but Dr Bob still made us feel in control of the birth and we felt that the choices we made were supported. I will be going to Dr Bob when we decide to try for #2 - he is fully supportive of a VBAC...
Cheers!

Great recommendation, but he is very hard to get into. Very hard. Even my GP could not get me into him. It seems the only way to get into him is if you go the way you have with the IVF or Gyney or fertility concerns. If you want to go straight to him for Obsetretics it is near impossible.
I have another Obstetrician at Northwest who is fantastic. My GP says that pretty much all the Obstetricians who deliver at Northwest are great doctors. Just depends on who you match well with.

Hi There,
I have had Dr Christopher Price for both of my children and found him fantastic. He operates out of North West Private and you can have all scans and blood work done there too, which is a huge bonus.
I think Chris has the right combination of humour and professionalism, oh and he always tells you you look beautiful, which helps when you feel like a blimp with legs (and not in a creepy way).

Just want to add another plug for Dr Doug Keeping. I know many people who have gone to him and not heard one complaint. I can't recommend him highly enough!

Hi girls
I will put in a vote for Dr David Lingard - he is a lovely man and very caring and calm! I had to have IVF to have my son and he was supportive the whole way - 4 years of treatment etc.
He delivers at the Mater at South Brisbane and his secretaries Janelle and Amanda are fabulous!
Good luck and book early

Ditto on the vote for David Lingard - nice gentle sense of humour and children of his own. We were very happy with him.
Well I had Dr Tuicolo at Northwest private when I lived in Brisbane. He was great :D also cheaper than the others because he has only been in Brisbane a few years having moved from Sydney. A girlfriend who had moved from Sydney used him as her old OB from Sydney recommened him and loved him he has a very gentle bedside manner. One thing to keep in mind is my old next door neighbour's mother thought he looked a bit like Don King but loved him after the inital appointment was done!

Another thumbs up for Dr. Doug Keeping on Wickham Tce. He delivers at the Mater Private.
He always has a smile on his face .. he is so gentle and I've only heard EXCELLENT reports! He has been delivering babies for a VERY long time and knows quite alot, he also does IVF.
I look forward to all my appointments with him and I can't wait for him to deliver our little girl.

Hi there
I tried to get in to Dr Bob Watson twice ... at around the 4 week mark and he was booked out! Have had a few friends go to Chris Price and they all say he's good value.
We saw Dr Ben Bopp from NorthWest (now at the Gold Coast) for our first and Dr Carol Portmann at the Royal Women's for the second. Carol was absolutely fabulous and one of the best neonatal specialists in the country should you need one.
I found Carol to be very supportive of personal choice and she just exuded professional calm! You can see Carol by booking into the Royal as a private patient. All consultations are bulk billed.
Good luck!

Also vote for Dr Keeping. My wife had him for both boys and he was excellent. He also delivers at the Wesley. He is very experienced but also very busy. You need to get in early.

Hi there
Does anyone know of an obstetrician that delivers in Mater Mothers (Brisbane) and who is also supportive of an "acitve/natural birth"?
I am not pregnant yet ....working on it! and trying to find out as much as I can in the meantime..
I really would like to have a natural birth but as a private patient. I have heard a lot about private hospitals having a higher rate of C-sections etc.
:o I hope you dont think I am wierd asking questions before I am even pregnant, I am just excited, and want to be as prepared as I can be
Thanks :D

Try Dr David Hill in the Alexandra Building at Wickham Terrace. He guided me through a natural labour even though bub eas posterior position and wasn't completely ready to come out (or so I thought).
He's very caring and very funny. And one of the best things, he doesn't make you stand on the scales at every visit !

I would also recommend Dr David Hill. I am due 14 October and he has been fabulous throughout the pregnancy. He delivers at the Wesley, which I have been told is an excellent hospital for having your baby.
I was originally going to stick with Dr David Molloy who I also highly recommend. I have been with him for years as he treats my endometriosis and also made our pregnancy happen for us (donor sperm insemination thru QFG). But seeing as though he has a very busy schedule he couldnt give me have a natural birth & told me I would either have to have a CS or be induced. He referred me to David Hill.

Thanks for the good advice! Didn't know where to start looking for an obstetrician, but took the advice of many of you and booked in with David Hill - had our first obstetrician appointment today, and he seems great. Thanks!

Fantastic Amanda - good luck with the pregnancy !
He was always so good and never made me feel uncomfortable - was great with DH too. He was a pleasure to have involved in the birth of my bubs and I'll be hoping we get to go through it with him again next time !:D

Dr Peter Ganter is on Wickham Terrace and is a very down to earth man. I would recommend him to anyone. He is very good at what he does and still has vacancies for September 2006.

Congratulations.
I had my baby with Dr Rod Allen based at the Mater Hospital. He is newish to private practice but has heaps of experience. I found him wonderful. I was referred to him after my treating ob/gyn passed away 1/2 way through my pregnancy after fertility treatment. and Dr Allen couldn't have been more wonderful. His receptionist Susan is also wonderful to deal with.
good luck
