Just a quick question regarding EBM. If there would not be enough EBM for a whole days worth. Would it be better to top up the EBM with some formula each feed to make up a whole feed or to just stick to EBM bottles and then give straight formula bottles? If the baby has never had formula before.?

Hope that makes sense.

Do you mean put formula in with the EBM? I'd keep the two separate. If bub is still hungry after they've drunk the EBM, then you could make up a formula bottle. I express two bottles a day for Munchkin to have while I'm at work, and we have formula back up in case its not enough.
Hope I've understood you right.

In the hospital we tend to mix ebm and formula as the baby is used to the taste of ebm and they can sometimes be a bit intollerant of big changes.

Ok thanks for that. I was thinking to start out with it might be a bit easier on the tummy and then once he's used to it then he can just have a formula bottle. My friend suggested it cos she said that her twins had mixed milk in special care nursey.

Thanks for the advice. Was she ok with normal formula straight away?

EBM and formula are quite fine to mix together in the one bottle. This was suggested to me by my ECH nurse as my DS wouldn't take straight formula. I only give him one bottle a day and BF the rest of the time. I usually mix about 50mls formula with about 100mls EBM and he loves it.
