View Full Version : When to see a doctor - re: cough
My DD, 9 months, has had this reoccuring cough for about 4 weeks now. It turned into a cold, which has now cleared up...
Do you think I need to see a doctor about this cough? It's persistant, and doesn't seem to be going away, but at the same time, it doesn't seem to be bothering her...

Do you think it could be a fake cough? About a month ago my DD used to fake cough all the time. She does it when we cough too and she tries to get louder as she does it.
If it doesn't seem like a fake one, I would take her to the GP just to be on the safe side. Does it appear to be mucousy or dry and constant? If it does, definitely go.

I wondered that too.. whether it was fake. DH always says, hahaha listen to her trying to fake cough..
I don't know. Maybe I should take her to see a doctor anyway, can't hurt. I suppose they can listen to her chest and check there isn't anythiing wrong there.

You should be able to tell if it's a real one that needs to see the doctor if it's crusty or if she's bringing anything up. I had a cold 3 weeks ago and my cough is still here, I went to the GP today to find out that I've got a chest infection.

Yes definately take her to the doctor!
My 16 month old littile man had a cold about a month ago which cleared up but he still had a bit of a cough left.
I came home from work one night and he had deteriorated over the day. I put him to bed and decided i would take him to the doc in the morning.
At 4am that morning i heard him whimpering sounds coming from his room and went to check on him and he was barely breathing.
Luckilly we live 1km from the hospital so I rushed him into emergency and they admitted him. Turns out he had bronchiolitis and that had developed into pneumonia. He spent a few days in hospital on oxygen but he's fine now. It still sends shivers down my spine thinking of what may have happened if i had'nt heard him that morning.
Sorry, i don't mean to scare you but i think that if you are at all worried then take her in. A mother knows when theres something not right with her child:yes:
