I know hair loss can be normal after giving birth but how much is normal and can you do anything about it?

It probably started when DD was about 3 months (she's nearly 5 now), I have shoulder length dark hair and even normal day to day falling strands is noticable on the floor, well now I have to sweep up after I blow dry my hair! I dare not run my fingers through my hair unless a bin is nearby or I am outside!
I have VERY thin baldish patches (which are noticable particularly when i wear my hair back) near my temple areas, people are quite shocked when i point it out.
My hair is very thin but I have lots of it... well I used to! I wash it every second day and need to brush it in the shower to stop it all going down the drain and clogging it up!

When will this stop?
Has anyone else had this so severe?
Is there anything I can do to stop it!?

I could have written that word for word.. :(

I dont know what to do but im so scared im going bald..

Its gone beyond a joke how much i am losing, like handfuls when i brush or run my fingers through my hair..
Ive even started not washing my hair for an extra few days in between washes and just putting up with the fact that its oily because of the amount i lose every time i wash it.. It cant be normal..

I make sure im taking vitamins in case its cos im breastfeeding but its really really bad..
So bad my mum suggested i see a doc in case its alopeca (sp??)

So no your not alone.. :hugs:

i've got the same prob, Alexis is 5 and a half mths now and its still falling out like no tomorrow, my hair is everywhere, its horrible, I wonder when it will stop falling out, its driving me insane, I have to wash my hair (or at least wet it) every day to get all the horrible fallen strands out,

Yep.. i remember when my hair was falling out after DD was born.. i hated it !
But i can't exactly remember when it all stopped and went back to normal. I think it went on for a good 3-4 months.
Just remember that its not normal and you will not go bald.

I had the same prob and it only just almost back to normal (DD is 15 months) I have lots of really annoying curly fluffy bits that won't stay in a ponytail but at least the bald spots are gone. So there is hope it will grow back. Although now that I have finished breastfeeding it seems to be falling out again not sure if it is as bad as before but hopefully this is normal too and it will grow back too..:fingerscrossed:

I hate it i have clumps coming out :( bubs grabs my hair or runs her hand through it when feeding and ends up with a hand full! I cant remember how long it lasted for me but i know that when i stopped BF and got my body back (af wise etc) it started to stay put :)
