My poor DD 20mths has suddenly started waking in middle of the night, I think that it may be nightmares as it is sudden and she is screaming, when I or my husband go into console her she is generally (sometimes it takes longer) easily resettled, but then she seems to have a great problem getting past that first stage of sleep, she will be quiet for about 5-10 mins and then be calling out and screaming again and this can go on for about an hour if not more by the end of this time she is wide awake (but we are not!).
I have tried everything from leaving her to cry for awhile (when she isn't scared just calling out), to sitting in the room not making any eye contact but just so that she can see me and feel safe.
We have just 2 weeks ago moved her into her new room, though she was doing this before we moved her, and she needs to be in there now.
I am getting so tired and frustrated as it seems like it is becoming a midnight habit.
She has always been such a good sleeper (touch wood), that I really don't know what to do, and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Natalie

HI,
I had the same prob wit my DS when i was preg. from the time i was 5mths till just 3weeks b4 i gave birth he stopped. He woke up screamin, i also that it was nightmares but it wasnt i think it was just cuz i was preg. cuz since 3weeks prior to giving birth his been sleepin right through the night again. He could smell me leaking when we decided to put him in bed with us (he tried to attach to me) not cool at all. we had no other choice but to put him in bed with us and my DP had to get up for work n he works long long hrs. and i needed the rest too.

i think she will just pass, i just noticed u are preg and that might have be the reason why...

Do you have a night light for her with a lullaby? that seemed to help my DS during some of those nights...

Thanks
