View Full Version : Replacing elastic in FB's and BG's

I've checked out the instructions for other types of nappies- but how would I repair the elastic in pockets such as BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunz?

Does anyone know what I mean? The elastic is sewn in differently in those nappies, totally unlike the other repairs I've done on my Very Baby and BB fitteds.

I don't know how I'd unpick it with out totally separating the outer from the inner. Or should I leave it there and weave through some more elastic next to it? How would I fix new elastic to the nappy without perforating the pul, causing it to leak from then on?

Who can give me some pointers? I'd be very grateful!! :D:yes:

I can't give you any pointers on sewing, BUT...

if your BG are less than 12 months old then they're still under warranty and the company will replace them for you if the elastic's given out. This just happened to almost all of mine and they very kindly replaced them for me

Others will disagree, but tiny pin prick holes IMO are not going to cause leakage. If they do - I think the whole nappy needed changing long before it started seeping through those tiny little holes.

In other words I would just sew the elastic on and ignore the holes.

Thanks guys :)
OM, I think that I'll just sew that elastic in, like you suggested. I'll just need to use them when winter hits and everything starts taking days to dry- I'll give it a shot.

The nappies (both the BG's and the FB's) are about 1.5 years old, so too late for the warranty...

Ive heard that putting PUL in the dryer on warm is ok and will repair small holes such as pin pricks..

Ive never done it though..

Any one else heard this??

ETA

I always try to put anything I've made through the dryer after the first wash, to close up any pin or needle holes in the PUL.

I've heard that putting it through a dryer will help close needle holes

Thats from nappycino..

Yes, Tania from darlings told me to put them in the dryer on hot when I was having issues with wicking through the stitching.

I've heard this too, but don't have a drier- that's why I'm a little apprehensive about sewing directly into the pul....
But it seems to be the only way... am I right?

Arghhh fair enough..

You dont have a family member or a bubhubber friend that you could chuck them in there dryer for 20mins when you visit??

Id help you but im a bit far away.. lol

The only other thing i can think of is a really long spell in the hot sun.. Might work..
Whats your weather like??

Em if you don't mind paying they postage you could send them to me to fix, and I could chuck them in my drier after I've fixed them, and I could send you the training pants as well in the same post back?
