We're very happy, my dd and I. Most of the time anyway. She's bright and healthy and happy and I couldn't go on without her. But every so often she gets upset about not having a dad. She draws pictures of the "family" with Mum, Dad, herself and her brother. She doesn't have a dad or a brother in her life! She started to cry today, I asked her what was wrong and she said 'I want my DAD!" and cried again. I told her we don't need one, we're happy without one and she stopped crying and went off to play. I know it upsets her. Anyway, don't know what to say or how to answer her sometimes other than tell her she has a dad, he lives a long way from us and we don't see him, and I tell her what his name is but she still calls him Steve even though that's not his name.

Thanks for the support, and thankyou lovingmotheract for the PM. He has nothing to do with her and I really don't think she wants her father around, it's more that she wants just any dad or someone to call dad like the other kids at daycare have. She sees dads picking kids up, they talk about mums and dads at group time, in books dads are mentioned as well as mums, like a normal family would be mum, dad, brother, sister so she wants that I think, although she hasn't said that outright, that's just me thinking of what she means by what she says/does.
