to think that my son is quite intelligent at such an early age?

He is 17 months. I don't think he is a genius at all, I just think that he is going to be a bright kid when he gets older. Mostly because of how much he understands and how clearly he can communicate without words.

Someone either knock me of my perch, or tell me I'm not crazy, either answer will satisfy me.

I think we all feel a bit like that about our kids :) they are such sponges at that age try and give him as many experiences as you can :yelclap:.

I think that my DS is particularly clever.. He is very well spoken, and understands so many things, even social situations. At least I think so. Enough bragging.

It may be that your DS is progressing normally, or he may be a bit brighter than average.
Either way, he will always seem amazingly clever to you.

That is OK. Infatuation is part of being a mother, and seeing your baby grow into a wonderful child, teen then adult will be the most rewarding thing ever.

In summary:
You are not crazy.

 No Susan, you are not silly...just inlove.

I swear with each one of my boys I have thought "wow, he so smart"

I don't think there is anything they could do that we wouldn't be proud of.

You are normal...not silly or crazy. :)

You're not crazy or silly! You're a loving mum who's proud of the wonderful little person you created and are raising. Aren't we all!

My almost 17-month old DS is constantly amazing me with how 'clever' he is, every day lately I find myself in awe of his communication and shaking my head at some new thing that he's done or learnt - and raving about it to anyone who'll listen :o. He just blows me away! I have no idea if he's average intelligence, or above, or below - but in my infatuated eyes he's just the smartest little cookie ever, and I LOVE watching him learn and develop! :bee:

You aren't alone ;)

Absolutely, every parent has the most wonderful, intelligent child, its our right to think and believe that.;)

Nah, you are just being a proud mum!

Our own kids are brighter and smarter than everyone elses:D Unfortunately life is a good reality check, so enjoy the feeling while it last and when they disappoint you, or turn out to be 'average' don't worry, you will still see star qualities in them!

Good, thanks for all your answers, girls.

I've had a few people tell me recently that he seems quite bright, and he does come from fairly intelligent stock on both sides, and he can do half the things on the development charts for a two year old. That's why I asked the question.

Oh, and he knows how to make coffee. Grind the beans, put them in the coffee pot, put the hot water in the pot, get the milk out of the fridge. If he was a bit taller and was allowed to touch the hot kettle, I'd be set.

But in reality, it doesn't matter to me, probably until he gets to school age. We'll just keep giving him opportunities to do and learn things, because that's what is important to us, and may well be why he seems bright. (the poor kid has TWO teachers for parents.) And I'll love him whether he gets straight As when he is older, or struggles to get Cs.

It amazes me how much he knows and understands and tells me (even with only a handful of words). I'm glad I'm not the only one.
