View Full Version : I just rang Nurse On Call...
Because I wanted some reassurance after I noticed some bright pink and then later brown blood when I went to the loo today.
After a lot of questions, she came to the conclusion that I must go and see the dr within 24 hours, and that I shouldn't go to work tomorrow.
I'm not in any sort of physical pain or anything like that, and I honestly thought she would say that it's nothing.
Now I am stressed and I can't stop crying. I don't know whether or not I should go to emergency or not...
DP is about 20 minutes out of town, working on his ute at a mates place...
I don't know what to do.... :gloomy::crying:
Anyone? Any advice? Should I go to emergency and ask for a scan???
Any sign of blood in pregnancy is very worrying, but from what i've read and heard of others stories, brown blood is usually old blood, which is something that could be just due to implantation.
Goodluck, take it easy and try not to stress (as hard as it is to do). :hugs:

Are you still bleeding?
Nomsie :hugs: a bit of spotting is normal in early pregnancy, actually most of the way thru!
If you are going to MC (sorry), then there isn't anything that can be done by a doctor. But YOU can put your feet up, relax and try to relax. I know it's easier said than done but do try. Run yourself a warm (NOT hot) bath or have a nice shower and try to relax a bit.
Do you have a scan coming up? A dating scan will give you reassurance. By all means go to the GP tomorrow, but try to relax in the meantime.
In my experience of nurse on call, they always say go to the doc because they have to cover their bot bots in case something goes wrong.
:hugs::hugs::hugs:
Sort of... brown blood when I wipe....but only a very small amount

If it was me I would go to the ED.
It sounds OK to me! But go and relax, put your feet up!!

:hugs: Try to relax.
See your GP tomorrow and try to take it easy tonight.
A bit of spotting is normal, happens to lots of women. Remember Stellarellas thread a while back? :hugs:
Have you talked to your DP? Can he come home?
Well the good news is, I have my feet up now (laptop, sitting on recliner infront of tv)
I know if its a miscarraige that I can't prevent it, so really I'm not quite sure what going to the ED would do... but I can't stop crying. It took so long to finally fall pg, I can't lose him now. :(

If you are really that worried then whats the problem with going to the ED?
If it was me i'd go :)
I haven't called DP yet, but I did tell him earlier this afternoon that I was bleeding a bit.
I don't think he can come home, he is putting a new radiator in his ute, so he would have no way of getting here.
if it was me, I would head in to either a doctor or the hospital just to make sure. It might be worthwhile just for your peace of mind if nothing else. Im sure everything is fine :hugs: Try not to stress and remain calm (this is funny come from me queen of stressers) As others have said brown blood indicates old blood so probably nothing to worry about but best to be checked out just in case :hugs:
Well the good news is, I have my feet up now (laptop, sitting on recliner infront of tv)
THATS A GIRL
forget nurse on call ( even an ambulance officer told me that on an ambulance ride///)
so if you are worried go to your doc!
XOXOXOXOXO
I'm sorry, I don't have any advice but I wanted to give you some of these :hugs:
Try not to stress out and keep relaxing. I know it's easier said than done.
Or if you're really worried, is there a way, you could go to the ED by yourselfs? (sorry, if that's a dumb question)
there's nothing wrong with going to ED and checking if everything is ok.
take care :hugs:
I can easily get myself to the ED... i just don't want to sit around for ages whilst those with more serious cases go ahead of me. Oh I really don't know! I'm quite torn now between going to the ED or just waiting... oh wait, that was my choice in the first place :hair: :crying:

Hi, Nomsie :hugs:
I had this at about 5 weeks (Dont know if you saw my thread,it is still in general chat if you want to look at it)
The bleeding/cramping has not stopped yet, but it has got better. I got all the same advice as you will probably get 'if it's going to m/c, it is pretty much unpreventable' Sounds horrible I know :hugs:
Try to stop crying, I know its hard.:(
I still worry, and am really nervous about my 12 wk scan in a fortnight, but all I can do is try to relax, no mowing lawns etc, extra stress or heavy lifting ;)
I hope this is nothing. Remember a lot of people bleed during or right through pregnancy, its not always the end.
:fingerscrossed::goodvibes:
Well, there might be not so many people there waiting, so you never know.
I'd go and get it checked out, at least then you know what's going on.
Hun, if you feel like you won't be able to relax and wait it out then go to the ED and have a quick scan. May as well wait at the ED as at home.
No point sitting at home if you can't relax and stop worrying.
I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about tho :hugs::hugs:

You can always call ED and check how busy they are?

Nomsie - big :hugs: hun.
You are doing exactly the right thing. There is no point getting stressed and upset in an emergency waiting room. A scan actually probably wont be able to show you anything anyway.
They usually cannot see a heart beat till 7 weeks or so .....so all they can tell you is to go home and rest.
The advice on not going to work tomorrow is good advice - take it easy at home and plan all the wonderful things you are going to buy for bub :D
Lots and lots of women have small bleeding in early pregnancy. 9 times out of 10 it is nothing to worry about.
pm me your msn address if you want to chat :D
I had the same thing happen with this pregnancy Nomsie. Please try and relax, I know it's hard.
I had brown bleeding/spotting when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I would only appear when I wiped (TMI, sorry!)
I went to the ED, and was advised that it was called "Implantation Bleeding" where the placenta and everything is implanting into the uterine wall. Because the cervix is closed, left over blood and lining can get stuck and will every now and then release, thus looking like a miscarriage.
Red blood is more concerning, as well as cramping. You mentioned that you have no cramping, this is a good sign.
Try and rest up tonight and please go and see your GP in the morning.
Fingers are crossed for you :)

:hugs::hugs::hugs:
My advise is to take a few deep breaths and relax.
I had the same thing in both my pregnancies, early spotting. And I've got a good story and a bad story.
My first pregnancy resulted in a healthy baby boy, my second pregnancy ended in a miscarriage on the weekend.
Take the day off work tomorrow and see if you can get a referral for an ultrasound just to put your mind at ease. Stressing out while you're at work will not be doing you or bubs any favours.
I'm not telling you this to scare you, I'm telling you this so you stay positive.
REST...REST...REST

Hey Nomsie, Hope you are ok :hugs: :hugs:
Thanks everyone for your concern.
I did end up going to the ED last night. I finally got in to see a dr, and he had a look inside to see if he could see where the bleed was coming from. He said if he can't see anything, that's great, but if it's anywhere near the womb, I should be concerned.
It was coming from the womb.
He asked for a gyno to come in and check it out, and when she eventually came, she had a look too and took a scraping. She said it appears as though I was 90% likely miscarrying. I was so upset, all I could do was cry.
She took a blood sample, and sent me home with instructions to book in today for an ultrasound and then come straight back to the ED and ask for a gyno.
I went home and (TMI) put on a pad to prepare for the worst that I was sure to come during the night. I got up to go to the loo twice, and both times no blood. *phew*
So this morning I got myself a US appointment for 12. I got in, and no joke, the guy had barely even put the thing on my tummy, when he said "You have a retroverted uterus." (THAT explains a little bit why TTC took so long!)
I was happy with that, it explained one part of this journey at least. But it did mean that I had to have an internal us.
Which all went well. Of course, being so early, all he saw was a sac, but I was happy with that- a sac was better than nothing!
We made our way over to the ED and asked to see a gyno. We waited in the waiting room for 1/2 an hour before we were called in. The dr asked for a quick run-down of everything that had happened, and then asked what my blood results were from last night. I said that I was sent home straight after the blood was taken, so he not only had to go call the gyno, but he had to call path to get the bt results as well!
We waited another 1/2 hr, he eventually came back and said the gyno was busy, but he had the bt results. Everything was completely normal! :D We still had to wait for the gyno though, who was busy, and most likely assisting in a birth.
DP and I sat and waited for 1 1/2 hrs before someone noticed us. She went and got the dr, who said he had forgotten ( ) but the gyno was still busy, so he called her and she said to say everything appears to be good. I need to go see my GP in around 2 weeks (needed to anyway) for another scan, and in the meantime if I start bleeding or am in any pain again I need to go straight to the ED.
So, it appears that Small One is hanging in there, my tough little guy!

Nomise, I have everything crossed for you hun.

leeedin is quite normal in pregnancy
i know though you freak out as soon as you see blood.
if its brown its old blood.
I had alot of bleeding when i was pregnant with DS
i had so many scans but they could never find out why i was bleeding
the day before i gave birth a midwife checked me cause i was bleeding yet again, she said i had a very touchy cervix and whenever it was bumped it would bleed.
i am 12 weeks now and have had more bleeding than when i did with DS. And alot of bright red blood :( i've had 2 u/s already but bub is just fine and kicking
but its so stressful finding blood all the time.
have you had sex or anything to bump your cervix recently?
Well, DP and I haven't had sex recently (poor guy!) but I must say, just because I am pg, doesn't mean I have changed anything I do with the kids at school, so it's highly possible I have had a bump or more... especially seeing as though I am clumsy by nature and quite often walk into things like tables etc...
it's good to know that others bleed during pregnancy too (Although I'm sure we would all rather nothing!) :)

I am soooooo relieved!

I am soooooo relieved!
But now a little more worried every time I go to the loo!
I know it's not at all the same, but when I was about 6 weeks pregnant we had really cute loo paper with pink stuff on it and every time I went for a wee I would check and think it was blood.
It's normal to worry, try to relax. :hugs:
lol... thank god our loo paper is plain! (with little embossed roses awwww!)
Completely normal concern. I used to take a deep breatn every time I went to the toilet.
LOL! Toilet paper with pinkish/red designs are EVIL!
Nomsie, I'm glad to hear everything's OK. I hope you don't have any more bleeding. I know what you mean about worrying every time you go to the loo. I had a bit of bleeding at about 8 weeks, which was the same time I miscarried last time so of course I was thinking the worst. But the bleeding stopped & I had my u/s a couple of days later which showed that all was OK. :) I hope your little bub continues to stick around. :goodvibes::babydust2:

 Sounds like your bubba is very brave:goodvibes:
With the retroverted uterus, I have this and it doesn't affect TTC. It can make labour a bit longer though
Retroverted uterus' tilt back to where they are supposed to be, between 12-20 weeks :) I have one and it's tilted to the correct position again.

Nomsie i'm glad to hear the spotting stopped,
its quite common to bleed in early pregnancy, 9 time out of 10 it doesn't cause any problems and most of the time its implantation bleeding, still its scary when it happens
your retroverted uterus won't cause you any problems either, will just mean in early pregnancy you'll need to have internal ultrasounds as its hard to see bub when the uterus is retroverted, and as wyattsmama said, after 12wks when the uterus starts expanding upwards as bubs grows it will flip forward and expand as normal, and it doesn't cause any probs during labour, doesn't make it longer or anything, and sometimes after having bubs it can stay forward and not be retroverted anymore,
all the best for the next 7 and a half mths

i have a retroverted uterus too

im still bleeding on and of every now and again and i will be 13 weeks on monday. I just wish it would stop!
