I am completely not a knitter (I don't count the half a square I knitted when pg), but I was thinking, coming into the cooler months, wouldn't it be a good business idea for someone to knit sleeping bags? Sort of a woolen soaker and sleeping bag all in one...
:D
I have lots of patterns. I never really considered it as a business idea though...so much time, and yarn, goes into them, and I didn't think anyone would be prepared to pay enough to cover that, let alone to make anything on top of it. Its so much easier, and probably cheaper, to buy the fleecy ones from the shops.
But in saying that..I just *love* the look of the knitted ones, just something so sweet about them :)

Well, I'd pay :D Where can I see what they look like?! I've got some gorgeous yarn here that I could make one with if I had a pattern, too.
Assuming the sleeping bags are sleeveless like the Gro-Bags- wouldn't bub need to wear a top too? So- wouldn't the wee from the nappy (without a soaker, because the sleeping bag is doing a soaker's job) creep up bub's t-shirt, singlet or long-sleeved top? Just trying to get an idea as to how it would work :)

Last time I did knitting for anyone, the recommended rate was a lousy $1 per ball, regardless of ply!
Quite frankly, people are just not willing to pay what it costs in yarn, let alone what it is WORTH.
Now if you had a knitting machine, that's a different thing entirely.

the problem would be they would cost alot of money to make cause it would use alot of wool
a know of a lot of people who think soakers and longies cost to much
so much time and effort goes into these things.
Like the dying of the wool then balling then knitting or crocheting!

There is one commercial brand that makes one.

Can you say who makes them, Janie? Is it Llamajama? I know of their button-through sleepsuits, but do they have bags too? Do tell :D

it has disana written on it.
i have never even used it, it still has the tags and everything, DD was given it in the wrong season
I have considered making sleeping bags for my kids - there are patterns. But for over cloth you would still need a soaker I would imagine. As others have said the cost would be too much to sell.
Wool blankets are similar.
