A silly question for any mums who've made major changes in their appearance - did your toddlers recognise you afterwards or did it take a few minutes? Hopefully there were no tears??

I died my hair from brown to PLATINUM blonde after they went to bed one night and the next morning DD1 told me I looked like a scarecrow - no hint of fear or non-recognition though

I guess it would really depend wouldnt it ?
I mean kids are usually resilient & take change really well but if the change was due to an injury or illness i think they pick up more of the pain & emotional side of that IYKWIM.
Sorry probably not something i should comment on not having a toddler & all :o

Me blonde, hahaha. No way.
But Me-No-Hair day is approaching and I was considering it as a test of my vanity (and a good cause of course!)
Good point Ally. I meant cosmetic change. I hadn't even considered involuntary ones, thanks for that.

Are you shaving your head this year?? I am!! That is why I went ridiculously blonde, kind of like a test to see if DD would freak or not!!
Martha
DH shaved off his goatee that he has had for years and so I warned DD1 before she saw him and she was fine with it.
I have been contemplating the head shave for a good cause thing too...I reckon the trick is to have Chloe watch it happen and talk to her about it and be part of the fun - that way she will know how and why it happened.
Let us know what you decide!
Martha you've seen my hair right? Well on Saturday I went to the hairdressers and got it cut (only about an inch or so) and blowdried and ironed straight. Nothing drastically different. When Eloise came into the hairdressers at the end she was too scared to come up close to me. She even flinched when I held out my hand to her. It wasn't until I spoke that she came closer and realised it was me!
I guess it depends on the child....

I believe I am the most qualified to answer this question on this forum. In DD short life I have had several hair colour changes including blue, pink, green and bright red and have has several different hair styles, going from long hair to shaved head to a bob with a big fringe. Most of these changes have been done overnight and DD looks at me strangely for a moment or two the next morning and them gives her opinion on it. Your DD will probably get used to any change quicker than you will!
you guys are shaving your heads?? thats awesome!!
I shaved mine last year- I had dreads to my bum and it was so crazy... no-one thought id be able to shave them all off... but I did and the response was amazing! Im only pregnant with my first now, but I think the response would have been abit like boomtish's!! I dont think i'll be shaving my head again any time soon, its just getting to a length where I can tie it up and im liking it too much :D

It sounds like the best approach is either to have DD watch, or have her see the new me for the first time at home where everything is familiar and she expects me. Picking her up from daycare with a suddenly shaved head is now crossed off my list!
I haven't decided yet. Firstly I've gotten very vain about this mop of hair on my head. It took several painful years to grow out my last short haircut and not sure I want to do that again. And also I don't know many people here to sponsor me and I'm not going to do it for just a few bucks! But I really really do need a haircut, lol!
