I'm planning my daugther's first birthday party and was after a few ideas from Mums who had done it or attended a first birthday. I'm after suggestions on food and anything else really. Having it at home in the garden and have a range of ages attending. Mainly 6 months, 1 year olds and 2 year olds, plus Mums and Dads.

All we done was finger foods. These were things like fairy bread, party pies and sausage rolls and little boys. Just stuff like that aswell as nibbles like chips and dips. It just depends on what time of day you are having it at.
I wouldn't worry to much about games though just make sure there are lots of toys to go round. :D
I hope she has a great 1st Birthday.
Let us know how it all goes.

I made a banana cake for the birthday cake which the little and big ones liked, and had fruit cut up like strawberries and kiwifruit and bananas, because many little ones of that age aren't used to lots of sugar, and many parents don't want their kids to have lots of sugar, but it was still colourful for them. There are also mini-ritz crackers and mini-cheezels which are a treat and a bit of a favourite with little people. At one they don't want much more than that anyway and are happy playing with the cups and wrapping paper etc in my experience!

Thanks so much for the responses. The fruit is a great idea. I'll let you know how it all goes.

We also did a lot of finger foods at our girls 1st birthdays and I also didn't like a lot of sugar so I made different muffins (chocolate, banana, carrot etc) so the children had a choice of they could have and also the parents could as well also not so much spillage as the children can easily carry them (they don't really like to sit down at parties). I also didn't do games as they just played with the toys and outdoor equipment that we had.

Have fun and cherish the day :)
