Hi
My brother is in the army and he is being deployed soon, he has a defence paid for flight that he was going to use to come home, but has decided that he is going to use that to send me to where he is. Which the army has said he can do.

What I want to know is do they only use the Qantas airline or do they use others, as my brother said they will only use qantas? the only reason I want to know is because we want to pay for dp and dd to come too, and Qantas is the more than the other airlines.

Also can anyone tell me how they will organise this, its really hard to talk to my brother about it as he is out bush and has been for 6 weeks and will be for another couple of weeks......please help Im very confused.

Hope all that made sence.:)

For normal destinations they use Qantas however if you live somewhere obscure, they may need to use another carrier.

You brother can provide the flight details he wants and they will book it (provided there are seats). They book a fare that can be changed ie fully refundable.

Thanks for the reply mumofjmc.

when is he flying out ?

Im not exactly sure on the date, but I think it is right at the end of this month or start of next month that he is deployed, he never gives me exact dates etc as it changes all the time, as you would know. I notice you are from brizzy thats where he is based too.

Hi Kailey's Mum,

the Defence go through QANTAS, as they are they are the Airline under contract, so your brother is right. However, you can book through another airline, and the Army should reimburse you for your ticket, (as your brother is entitled to the one flight)Keep your receipts. If you have your brother's RHQ details (Regimental Headquarters), they may be able to help you or point you in the right direction. If not, ring his base switchboard, and ask for his unit's RHQ. I hopethat helps you. If your daughter is under two, she won't cost anything anyway.:)

Hi there

I think it USED to be Qantas only, but my partner just got a trip booked from TWV to MEL through Jetstar. He just took in his preferred flights and they booked them. It worked out well, cos we're on the same flight.

I reckon get your bro to take in preferred flights.

Best wishes

Thanks guys, I will try and have a chat to him when he calls me.

Oh and twogirls my dd is over 2 so i have to pay for her too. Which sucks as I dont think she would sit in a plane seat taking off and landing anyways.

Hi Kailey's Mum,

I am flying to my mums next week (funnily enough, it is courtesy of the Navy) and I am not looking forward to the trip. My DD1 is fine but this will be DD2's first trip at 13 months. It will be fun, i'm sure. Anyway goodluck with everything.:)

Hi, Im sure your DD2 will be fine, we flew with DD at around 14mths, she was fine, she loved being on the plane.

It looks like it doesnt matter bout the flight question anymore anyways as his date has been brought forward and he will have no leave before he goes:(, it sucks but oh well thats the defence force for you I guess. Thanks to all you ladies that replied.
