Hi,

I have a 9 mth old baby girl....

I have just been told she is lactose intolerance, does anyone know what else a child of this age can eat as she is on solids. She used to love yoghurt etc and now i need something instead that she can have for morning and afternoon teas.

Is there anyone who has a child with this or knows anything about it???

Any help would be appreciated.. :)

Thank you
Liz

Hi
I don't have alot of suggestions, but i have seen that Vaalia now make a lactose free yogurt. (don't know if it's ful fat or not) I could not find it at my supermarket. I would look for lactose free recipes - Maybe try a google search. Sorry i cant think of many high calcium recipes which don't involve dairy/lactose. But may I ask what symptoms did your baby have? I 'm wondering if my girl may be aswell?
All the best ::) :)

Hi

My dd is 11mths old today and she is lactose intolerant too.

It does make it harder to give them things. There is a lactose free yogurt you can get although I don't use dairy at all so I'm not sure what its like.
I use goat milk instead.
I make things like custard, pikelets, mini muffins all with goats milk.
My dd also has things like rice cakes, sultanas and lots of fruit and veges.

I find cheese is the hardest. I would like to try goats milk cheese but I'm not sure what it tastes like.

All the best.

Michelle :)

My son is nearly two and lactose intolerant too. He drinks alot of lactose free milk and whenever we make things like quiche and omelette we add this milk.
He has never tasted cheese in his life so I doubt it he misses it. Snacks are fruit, bananas, sultanas, potato chips, fruit bars, muesli bars and fruit cups with jelly. My husband cannot have dairy also so we don't really have those foods in the house. I eat yogurt sometimes. He loves So Good ice cream and I am sure you can get yogurts and cheese by Sanitarium. Go to a health shop to look for lactose free alternatives.
Good luck.

I am lactose intollerant and for years drank lactose free milk. Yoghurt and cheeses do not affect me, from what i understand the processing takes allot of the lactose out, depends on how sensitive the intollerance is. If your child is still sensitive to yoghurt etc then try out the range of Liddells products http://www.liddells.com.au/ they are made out of normal dairy milk however Lactase is added to take out the Lactose. The milk is very nice, al ittle sweeter tasting than normal milk. They have flavoured milks and yoghurts (among other things) to, they are stocked at major supermarkets however availability of the products varies from state to state. If your supermarket doesnt stock what you are after ask them to start stocking it.
Of course there are also soy milks and other products which have added clcium so you are not missing out.
