I am looking for some information on the 6 month vax, i am an uniformed vaxer...
before now i have never given the reprecussions (sp) much thought. I have always just had the frame of mind that if I dont vax then I would hate myself if my dd's got sick.
I am now a little over due for dd2's vaccinations.
DD2 has some health issues and I am beginning to wonder whether I should put off her vaccinations until we have things sorted.
Can I have some vaxers and non vaxers opinions on whether I should put this off for a while?
For me it would depend on how they reacted to the previous vaxes, what the health issues are, the consequences of not vaxing (ie does it void the 2 & 4 months vaxes) and the possible consequences from the health issue. :)

I guess there are consequesnces all round.
I just dont know.
She has food allergies, which causes acid reflux, we think:confused:..... she is aggitated, scratches from head to toe, fevers, snotty nose blah blah all the works of a reflux babe really.

My opinion on all things is "If in doubt, DON'T". You can't unvaccinate her, KWIM? Being informed is never a bad thing.
If she's had the 2 and 4 months shots, then the 6 month is basically the last dose of those same ones - ie according to the manufacturer, the vaccine needs to be given in 3 doses, 2 months apart. So delaying it, and then deciding to go ahead with it, may mean you'll be told she needs more shots - catch up doses. So make sure you take that into consideration. If you think you'll probably decide to vaccinate, it may be better to give her the 6 month shots and then continue to research about all the other vaccines. But then again, maybe this next shot she has is the one she'll react to. And if she's got health issues, particularly immunological issues, she's likely more at risk of reactions.
Check out past threads in this immunisation section. There's THIS (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?p=1471589#post1471589) thread, which has allllll my bookmarks that I do my research from.
Basically the way I research is I look at each disease individually, and the vaccine for that disease. I look at how likely it is that my child will catch that disease, in the place we live, in terms of how much we travel, in terms of who we come in contact with, in terms of what our family situation is. Then I look at the vaccine. I look at the ingredients, and the contraindications for those ingredients. Some vaccines contain anti-biotics which are not recommended for babies under 12 months. Some vaccines contain ingredients that are not recommended to be used intra-muscularly (ie injected into a muscle).
Then I decide which I think poses the most risk to my kid - the disease or the vaccine. Again, I make this decision based on my kid, in our family, in the town we live, in our situation, in regards to how we live and what we do and who we see.
If my kid had to be in long daycare, then he probably would have had some vaccinations. If my family travelled oversea's regularly then we would have had some vaccinations. Etc etc etc. Nobody can tell you what to do, you have to decide based on your family situation.
Good luck, it can be confusing and overwhelming doing this kind of research but I know Perth Pony is able to answer any questions you have, and there are plenty of other informed people on bubhub, vaxxers and non-vaxxers, who will be able to advise you :)

My daughter was late with all hers for various reasons. She hasn't had her 4 year shots yet. At first she was sick heaps, now I just don't want to take her to get jabbed, so I'm waiting a little longer. I guess one consideration is daycare, if you use childcare they might not give you a fee subsidy if you don't have the vaccinations up to date. There are many other things to consider also and that's up to you to judge. There's nothing wrong with delaying vaxing though IMO unless they are exposed to those diseases and at high risk of getting them.

I guess i am of the "pro vax" camp so with Boof i didnt even think twice.
Yes i was watchful because i reacted to vaccines as a child so any signs of problems & he wouldve been held off like i was.
With Squeak its been a totally different kettle of fish. I didnt have any done on him at birth & was still wary about the 2mth vax's. I didnt actually want him to have the new oral one but the dodgey doctor had it in his mouth before i got the chance to say anything & i was livid ! His reflux got worse from there. Maybe it wasnt from them but for me i have my doubts that he should have any more & he hasnt.
He has now missed his 4mth & 6mth vax's & i will not even think about it until after his 1st birthday when i will review how he is running.
He will definately not have the MMR because something tells me NO NO NO this time !
Even my mum who is pro-vax due having had Polio supports my stance because of his issues. We are both actually more annoyed we cant get single vax's to choose what we want & what we dont aaaah wells !!!

I was like what is that, i never got a chance to say no either. But part my fault also, as I was uninform=ed as to what she was having other than three nast needles:(

Aww poor Maddie & poor you :hugs::hugs:
You know what dont feel bad because as society tells us its what we 'should do' then you were acting like all other parents & being 'responsible'.
My thing is ive learnt loads because of my mum & im truly grateful for that & am lucky compared to many others. I do believe in vaccinations BUT i dont think they are for everyone. I think its something that needs to be looked at on a case to case basis & any good doctor will tell you this !
The fact that you are now questioning whats right is all that matters & this is where you start to find out what you need to do.
Now if only it were as easy as researching a few things ( no researching isnt easy easy but still ! ) to find out what deal is with our bubba's !
hugs court
Im not sure if you know not sure if we spoke vaxing on msn (lol we chat about everyting else) mikis vaxing has all been done on its own schedual adording to what her imumologist sugests with miki being how she is i have always been to scared not to agree with what the drs stongly advise me to do silly I know but I guess with needing the drs as mush as we have you get like that
Anyway I dont see the issue with delaying the vaxing as i said mikis was all over the place, and I dont see the issue with reflusing them either as long as you have reserched it and know what is what as so many hubbers do KWIM, another thing I ws thinking seen maddie has funky bowels like miki i would sugest having her imunity tested to see if the vazes that have been done have actualy worked ( we need to get mikis done just not done it yet ) if they havent then the likely hood of the rest working is slim there for another reason not to do it
I know miki didnt have the rota virus vaxine it wasnt part of the schedual for her, she was born early 06 think it came in later, but i know with my next baby I wont be giving the rota vax as it is not recomended with kids with serious GI issues and being that any other child in our family is also at risk of GI issues I wouldnt want to risk it, Also it makes me thing it GID bubs cant have it then it obviously does some thing to the bowels KWIM so yer we staying away from that
Not sure if that isart of the 6 month ones or not
Perth Ponnie know alot about the reasons not to vax and walso explains it very well
If she's had the 2 and 4 months shots, then the 6 month is basically the last dose of those same ones - ie according to the manufacturer, the vaccine needs to be given in 3 doses, 2 months apart. So delaying it, and then deciding to go ahead with it, may mean you'll be told she needs more shots - catch up doses.
we delayed the 6 month vaxxes and had it done at 12-13 months. We do not have to do any extra shots (like start again with the 2 and 4 monthers)
We have had the pneumococcal done and will have the rest of the '6 month' vaxxes done a month after it.
