5 day blastocyst transfer advice

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if I could get some advice about the 5 day blastocyst transfer. I have had ten eggs collected on thurs and are all still doing well. Can anyone advise about how many usually survive till day 5? I have been ringing fs clinic everyday checking and am happy our embies are still battling on!!:yelclap: This is our first ever attempt after years trying naturally. I also have to have 3 pregnyl inj over 7 days and was advised that hpt are really inacurate if doing injections :eek:. Lots of questions :ecomcity: as you can tell I am starting to get pretty strung out as ET is on Tues!! Thanks.

Hi Hope4bub,

If all your embies are growing on to blasto that means they are strong and healthy and full of the energy required to keep growing, this is the best they can be :smiliedance::smiliedance:!!

As for the pregnyl it does effect the HPT and my clinic recommend that you do not do them if taking pregnyl as the "false hope" of a bfp they can create when that may not be the case. Many of the women here also do not advocate them, this is usually the sign they associate with them:devil:. In many cases on this forum many women have had the experience of a hpt being negative when infact their bt has proven to be positive.

The number of embies that survive to day 5 is very dependent on the quality of eggs and embies. In my three stimulated cycles that had transfers the same cycle I only ever had 1 make it to blasto from 6 eggs. My last stim cycle I had 16 eggs collected and 10 fertilised then put on ice (no transfer due to increasing progesterone). For my FET cycle we thawed 5 with 2 surviving so we thawed the other 5 and three survived, leaving us with 5 embies to make it to blasto. Again we only had one make it but it was a good one as we got our BFP.

As for Pregnyl injections, how long it stays in your system to affect HPTs depends on how many units you are injecting. For my FET cycle I injected 1500 units for each of my three injections over 7 days then had +ve HPTs three and four days after my last injection, followed by a +ve BT four days after my last injection.

Lots of variables to consider in both of your questions.

As the others said, how many survive to blasto, depends on their quality, but sounds very positive for you.
I am having a 5 day transfer tomorrow hopefully:fingerscrossed:. My embies this time around haven't been as good as I would have liked, but hoping that there will be at least one good blasto to transfer tomorrow.

Jezzy thanks for your help I am glad that my embies seem to be doing well and you have made me feel even better that they have a great chance :yelclap: as for the hpt I will probably try to not touch one until bt but being on these hormones :o I hope I can stay strong!!

Hi there - sounds like you have some good eggies there! I had 19 collected and only 4 fertilized (not real happy) but 2 did make it to blasto stage - we had one transfered and one frozen. Going for our FET hopefully in April. Good luck with your transfer and the TWW!!!

I just recently went through my first cycle - out of 14 eggs fertilised only 6 made it and only 3 to blasto. Transfered one with a BFN result and now have 2 on ice.
I used Ovidrel as my trigger but heard it doesnt affect a HPT.

You said you are calling every day - as far as my clinci told me they only check at day 3 and 5 as too much of checking can disrupt the process?

Thanks Talia for advice. B4 I went in for Egg Retrieval the embryoligist told me if I wanted to I could call each day to check on progress? If I thought it would disrupt the embies it would be the last thing I would do :eek:. Maybe the different clinics have different philosophies?? Good luck with your future cycles :).

At least one was strong and healthy because I'm now 3 days overdue!

MY FS likes 5 day blastocyst transfers for just this reason. You may lose additional eggs but those that go on to that stage are good strong embryos!

Be positive and keep everything but the necessary crossed!

My embie transfer is in the morning and the clinic says that they are happy with their progress. Am a bundle of nerves :eek:.

My transfer was on tuesday and am now on this dreaded 2WW that everyone says really drags - and they were right. I have had one embie transferred and 4 on ice.
