hello ladies
has anyone bought one of those dresses on ebay that take your measurements then make them in china?
it seems to good to be true to get a dress made for a few hundred dollars... what is the quality of the dresses like? Did you have any problems?
I messaged a couple of people directly who bought from different sellers and have varying replies.
The ones from the seller called zero love seemed to be really happy and said the dresses were beautiful. They are direct copies of designer dresses so there's no reason why they wouldn't be beautiful, unless the seller uses shoddy materials and that would soon show up in their feedback.
It works out to be around two hundred bucks, so if you have the time and are prepared to take a punt then go for it.
I didnt end up buying one, I found a second hand dress in my travels that I fell in love with instead, it was $150, but otherwise, yeah, I would have, why not. I love a bargain, can't help it.
Probably raining on your parade ( really sorry if I am), but they could be really cheap because of the difference in labour laws ( meaning that some people could be working very, very hard for very little pay), and (the cheap price) could have nothing to do with the quality of workmanship
Its no different to buying anything else from China in that case. The only difference is that there is no warehousing costs or retail mark up because you are buying direct from the factory. By listing on ebay they are able to cut out the middle man.
Most kids clothes are made in China - Pumpkin Patch, Sprout, Target, Big W - all made in China. Everything is made in China nowadays anyway.
I am considering buying one off there also...
But Only if I can find a dres that is very similar to my dream dress
ideamum, if you can get some detailed pics of your dream dress then they can make it for you, you don't have to just pick from the pics on their listings.
All they do is find pics and copy them anyway so its no different than if you supply the pics yourself.
There is another seller that I dont think sells on ebay, but also takes your measurements and has the dress made. A GF of mine went through this web site, and the dress was gorgeous.
Not sure if links are allowed, so just google bridescloset
I got a flowergirl dress made for my DD from one of those ebay seamstresses ... we were very very happy with it - it didn't look EXACTLY like the picture, but very close, and very lovely.. great fabric too, fully lined - all good
my only advice is to order it WAAAAY before you need it! I was stressing because ours didn't arrive until 1 week before my wedding. oh and ask the seller for a tracking number for the people they send it through.. I can't for the life of me remember the delivery company, but if you know the tracking number thingy you can track it on the website.. it was actually quite cool seeing where my dress was everyday ("oh look, it's in singapore now" LOL)

no1bub if you're willing to go to campbelltown i can give you the details of the seamstress who made mine for i think $350 - i'd bought my dream dress (which i still have and haven't been able to sell on ebay lol) when i was a size 12 then fell pregnant the following month so ended up having to have my dress made to accommodate the bump. :D

My brothers gf ordered one and it fits perfectly but came in the wrong colour (the embroidery) so they gave her 70% off any other dress and refunded half of the dress:yelclap: So she ended up with more money in her pocket and a beautiful dress that fitted her perfectly:smiliedance:
Sorry but ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I bought a dress from Ebay for my wedding.
When it turned up it was NOTHING like what the pic displayed. The material of the dress was made from taffeta, it was suppose to be satin. The dress what that poorly sewn that there were still pins in the dress in part it had not been sewn.
It was a 6 mth nightmare with Paypal. I finally ended up having my money refunded, but it was a very painful emotional process.
I highly recommend you DONT buy it from eBay.
You never know what you are getting, and they make it so hard to get your money back.
It was made in China.

Some of the second hand dresses on there are amazing I wish I had of not spent as much as I did on mine.
Most of those dresses are only worn for the ceremony and photographs.
And they are worth thousands new. If you are planning on reselling your dress afterwards you wont get back more than maybe $200.
I have 2 dresses sitting in my cupboard waiting for someone to buy them!
I bought my dress from an ebay shop. I was referred to this lovely man by my friend who had her dress made by him in May 2007. Her dress was perfect, so I gave it a go.
I found 'the' dress at a retailer in Perth, downloaded a picture and emailed it, he said he could make it, I sent him a few emails asking questions about it, what fabric he would use, what sort of beading he would do, just to make sure. I then sent my measurements and $220 through paypal.
Four weeks later, he sent me a picture of MY dress asking me if I was happy with it and if so, he would post it that day. I received it at my office a week later.
Its absolutely perfect, fits perfectly as it was made to measure, the material is spotless, beading exactly the same as the dress I tried on. I've taken it to a dressmaker to get the length taken up and to have a bustle put in and she was really impressed with the workmanship and how much money I saved.
I'd say go for it, I'm thrilled to bits with mine, my friend who had hers done through the same man loved hers and my daughter, who was a flowergirl at my friends wedding, also had her flowergirl dress made by him and its stunning.
If you'd like to PM me, I'm happy to send you some pics and a link to his ebay shop.
