Hello

I have recently recieved my 2 hemp and 1 bamboo babybeehind nappies and Im a little confused (well OK Im A LOT confused) and would like to purchase enough to use them on my DD full time. So I have a few questions I am hoping someone can help me with.

Firstly, the hemp nappies have a mini snap in peice of matching hemp as well as a longer peice to snap in. During the day will this be sufficient to use on my DD? or should I add a microfibre booster or Hemp Booster as well. Do you need to put in both the mini and longer ones if not boosting?

Secondly I also would like to know what peoples opinions on the new bamboo nappies are. They are supposed to be more absorbant so will I need to boost these as well during the day/night? They feel lovely but seem to take sooooooo long to dry.

Am I best off buying just a few Bamboo's for night time and the majority Hemp?

Help!!! I need advice before I go out and make the plunge and invest in this nappy system with my fast dissapearing money.

I hope I can help - I only own a hemp/ flannell baby behind... but I have seen the others..

hmm that is hard to answer... I use both pieces of hemp with my little man.. but it depends on how often she wets??? you probably have to do a little trial and error...??

Secondly I also would like to know what peoples opinions on the new bamboo nappies are. They are supposed to be more absorbant so will I need to boost these as well during the day/night? They feel lovely but seem to take sooooooo long to dry.

I was quite excited about them... they feel soooo soft.. but I have had so many friends say how slow they are to dry (I would find that sooo frustrating!!) - I dont think I will buy one - myself I prefer hemp - it dries faster.. is still absorbant - although I still throw my boosters in the dryer from time to time..

- I guess my opinion would be to purchase mainly hemp...

hope that helps!!!!

I can't really help cause i haven't received my order of bamboo nappies yet (eagerly waiting!!!) but did do a little research before purchasing them....

While bamboo does take longer to air dry, I have a tumble drier and I am not afraid to use it! Have been told they are much softer and of course more absorbant...

The reason why I went with the bamboo over the hemp is that I have been told that sometimes when the hemp is wet it can sometimes smell and also they have a tendancy to dry stiff....

But like I said I have had no practical experience using either nappy!

Thanks ladies your advice is appreciated.
I threw the bamboo one I had in the dryer today after waiting what seemed like hours for it to dry and even after ages in the dryer it still wasnt quite dry.
In the heat of summer I guess line drying would be ok, but with winter coming up and the sun not as intense I think the slow drying time will drive me insane.
So I think for the time being Hemp is what it shall be.
I am also waiting for two pocket nappies from Green Kids to arrive (was told by them that it is not unusual for it to take up to a fortnight to get here after they post it !!! ) so depending on that trial I guess I buy a combination of the two styles.

I have 9 green- kids pockets ( 5 PUL 4 dreamytimes) .. and I LOVE them,.. three seconds to dry (and can go in the dryer on medium if raining!) - I can not speak highly enough of them - I haven't had one single leak yet!!! If I had more money - I would buy more...

love them love them love them :D

they do take forever to arrive though... mine took about 5 days from perth to brissie (frustrating when you REALLY want nappies!!!)

Hahahah would you like my opinion of Greens nappies !!!!
HAHAHAH ! Ok you got it !!!! :smiliedance:
THEY ARE THE BESTEST OF THE BEST LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok im calm now:p

I have no idea about the bamboo nappies so cant help you out there but gees if they take longer than hemp i wont even bother as i have hemp boosters that are 4 layers worth & can sometimes take a whole day to dry & im impatient LOL.
Microfibre is great & hardly takes any time to dry like the Greens nappies especially if you put then on a high spin cycle which gets rid of all the excess moisture so they almost feel cry coming out of the wash !!!! But if you ever do need to tumble dry them they only take 30mins on warm for us which is awesome ! I normally wash my nappies of a nite then put them on our airer inside as it gets warmish inside due to being a brick house & they are dry by morning ! I own 7 dreamytimes but ive packed a few away for the next bub & 13 anytimes & they are great ! Like veve i haven had a drama with leaks unless i havent put them on right due to a wiggliebum ! LOL.
Stuffing/ boosting is a case of trial & error im afraid cause what works for one doesnt necessarily work for another but i find bubs has one microfibre insert inside his Greens & this lasts 3hrs or a little more. For overnite i use a hemp prefold which gives us 8 layers once folded or a thinner version that goes to 4 layers & i then wrap that over a microfibre insert with no dramas either way !
Im about to try the Eenees i bought through the week & will be just using the terry cloth insert so will see how that goes for us otherwise i have small hemp inserts for those if need be.
Remember the microfibre cant go against bubs skin as it loves moisture too much its not good for bubs skin so if you use it in your hemp nappies make sure its covered with the hemp or a fleece liner.
Good luck with them all hopefully in a few days you will work out whats right for you !
Shame Greens take so long to arrive for you ! Ive never waited more than 4 days ! Be patient they are worth the wait ;)

Hmmmm I suspect ladies that you kind of like the Greens nappies?? :D
Im glad to hear that you both are fans of them and now look forward to getting them in the mail. My little girl looks like an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate factory at the moment with her Babybeehind on. Hopefully the Green Kids ones will be more trim.
Again thanks for your advice.

I use mainly the fitted hemp from Baby Beehinds. I snap the long booster in at the back and fold it so there are three layers of booster at the middle/front where she wees the most. It took me a while to work out how best to use them.

I only used the little booster when my daughter was a few weeks old. I might use them when she is a bit older.

The bamboo is lovely and soft, I don't think I would rush out and but more as it takes to long too dry. I also have a Totbots bamboo it is like bamboo towelling and it takes ages to dry.

The hemp can go stiff in the sun, but a few minutes in the dryer soon has them fluffed up again.

Greens are also my favourite pocket nappy.

I use my bb hemp nappies at night with only the 2 boosters. I also fold the long booster but into 4ths at night with no other boosting. With a wool cover on it lasts him all night. Remember not to put microfibre directly on bubs skin as it will dry it a lot so add a liner between. Having siad that you really shouldn't need to boost these nappies anyway as they have 11 layers of hemp and that should last your DD.

Bamboo does take longer to dry because it is a little thicker, but it's more absorbant and softer. I hang mine out in the morning and leave it there all day with my other ones and it's usually dry by the afternoon. I like my nappies to have lots of time in the sun as it kills all the germs and bleaches about the stains.

If you want to soften up you hemp nappies, just throw them in the dry for about 10 mins when bringing them off the line. I sometimes throw mine in while I'm stuffing my pockets or snapping my nappies together, then I can just add teh hemp booster to the nappies that need them. If you are going to be throwing your nappies in the dryer all the time just be aware that the elastic on them will go a lot quicker than line drying them.

As for pockets I still love my greens and have had them for nearly a year now.

Good luck and welcome to another addication
