I am pretty sure this can not happen but i thought i would ask anyway.
If you are in a DHA house, can u get out of it and into a private rented place and will u still get rent allowence????
The place we are in is way to small and i just dont know what to do.
Hi Sarah, it would all depend on what the circumstances are that the residence you are in now is unsuitable...generally if its just your belongings dont fit they wont give you full RA as there is a residence that meets the standards, if its as simple as you dont like it definately not..also if its the number of children..they are finiky and it all goes on ages and sex...if they are the same sex they can share in DHA eyes...also if they are opposite to a certain age they will try make them co sleep...it sucks it really does...
Basically if there are no other houses in your rank but the one you are in you could be in with a shot but would have to get someone on a really good day...
I hope this made sense..
Good luck :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:
Thanks for that
I understand what u are saying thats what i thought would be the case.
So can i ask for another DHA place if there is one available?
Generally yes, i think they just make you pay for the removals..or if none in your category then you can opt to pay the next one up...its still cheaper than civi rent either way...
I'm not sure about RA, but we have asked to move from one married quarter to another in the same suburb and they approved it, as long as we moved ourselves - ie they wont provide removalists/disturbance allowance, motels. I can't remember if we had to pay for the cleaners to come in or if they did??
We moved because we lived right on the edge of the range and I constantly found spiders in DD's room and blankets! DH had also seen a snake in the yard and we felt it wasnt safe for a newborn.
They had just built heaps of new houses and had plenty vacant, so it wasnt difficult. I guess it depends on availability.
I might have to get hubby to give them a call on monday. Hopefully we might have some luck :fingerscrossed:
You can call yourself....but goodluck either way!!
Hate to be the wet blanket here... but as long as there is a housing solution within your entitlement you will not be able to get RA.
The only way you will be able to get RA is if there are no houses available within your entitlement.
As I understand it, If you have been moved into a married quarter and want to move into the rental market, you will be expected to pay for a full removal and the full costs of the rental.
You can only get an approval for RA before you move. Once you are moved, as far as DHA are concerned, you are in and your housing solution has been finalised.
That being said, good luck with it, as I hope for your sake, I am wrong.
Thanks for that, i new i wouldnt have much luck. So i guess we will just have to stay where we are :-(
Why is it that you want to move....Give them a call its all you can do
We tried to get moved to another DHA house last year and they wouldn't do that either. As far as we are concerned it's not sutiable and pretty much something will break nearly every few weeks. DHA have come and inspected the house a few times but each time it is classed as sutiable so there for they won't move us.
I hope you have some luck with them but like others have said once your in a place it's very hard to get out. Do you have a very long posting? Might just be worth waiting it out thats whats we were going to do until DH found out his next posting is for Darwin again .
I still say give it a go cause a mum i met in townsville just got moved from an old qld style home to a low set due to her back and a few other probs only thing was they had to pay to move themselves and they are paying for the sgts qrtrs...as its the group above there entitlement...
all you can do is pester eventually they will cave...
