We are hoping to be posted out of Edinburgh at the end of the year to Newcastle :fingerscrossed: however our PM is also seriously looking at posting us to East Sale :hissy:.

Anyway, if anyone is posted to East Sale or has been posted there in the past, can you please let me HONESTLY know what it is like as a posting location - good points and the bad. We are interested in things like shopping, shopping and shopping ! No just kidding, other things are important such as schooling, climate, housing etc etc.

Can't help you with East Sale.........but Newcastle is fantastic. My hubby is in the RAAF and we arrived back in Newcastle this year (our 3rd posting here). Love it love it love it. Don't you hate it when they throw a whammy in there, especially when you were hoping for a certain location.

I think that with any posting you just go with the flow and everything will be OK. I haven't heard any complaints about East Sale.....I'm sure it would be great.

Good luck with your posting.........does your hubby know anyone at work who has been to East Sale, maybe ask him to post something on the intranet at work - you're sure to get heaps of replys with info.

Hi

My hubby and I living in Cairns. (He has just trasferred from army to navy). Our last posting was Puckapunyal in Victoria. We haven't been posted to Sale as such, but I went to school there for a few years. Its a nice enough place. It has quite a few schools and shops. When i lived there over 10 years ago, the population was about 14,000. I am sure there would be a few more there now. LOL, and it was cold! Anyway,i guess the best thing would be to do check the Internet. Perhaps the DCO website might be able to assist you. I got lots of info about Cairns off there.:)

I am pretty sure you can contact DCO and ask for them to send you a welcome pack from your prospective location. It will have all sorts of information for you.

Generally you get a welcome pack upon arrival and moving into the new married quarter, but I have found them to be really useful if you get them before you move.

Maybe try that. If your local DCO will not help, perhaps try contacting the DCO at the potential receiving locality.

For our past two moves now I have requested and received the welcome pack before we moved.

Good Luck.

Newcastle is good - there are many surrounding areas that you can choose to live in yet still be close in proximity to the base

Yep, Newcastle would be a fabulous posting.

I have contacted DCO from both Newcastle and East Sale requesting information packs. DCO in East Sale did try to sell Sale to me but so far I am not convinced . We have also put our name down at both locations for childcare. Schooling is another issue we need to contend with but hopefully the REDLOs will send the info out quickly for us.

All we can do is keep our :fingerscrossed: for Newcastle.

Everyone please think positive thoughts for us - we really do not want to move to Sale :(.
