I don't know about the 3d ultrasounds, but at the hospital I had my son at we got a picture when we had the scan done, and the pamphlet we got before we went for it also said that we could have a video made of it, if we took our own blank tape in with us.
We are in Brisbane, but hospitals where you are can probably do the same.

hi,
thanks for the reply! so far i think the closest is going to be brissy. noone around nambour area does photos or videos. we got huge A3 size sheets of x-rays. which is great cause we can look at the baby, but i cant stick it on the fridge!
then someone told my partner they had one in caloundra but i can't find it, my doctor seems to be a bit funny about it, he told me where he had his done in brissy but that was it. all my friends in sydney came home with videos and photos, so i just thought it would be pretty standard.

Hi
From what i have heard 12 week ultrasounds seem to be a pretty standard thing, but I did not have one with my son and have not had one this time either, maybe it is the same with the type of pics you can get when you have an ultrasound done. Probably just depends on who you talk to.
I had my ultrasound done at the Mater last time, didn't cost anythig, hopefully I can do the same this time too. If I can't I have been told that it cost around $180, you get most of it back from medicare but not all of it.
If you find somewhere that does do the 3D ones could you let me know please?
Thanks

Hi there

i am 38weeks pregnant now but we had our 20week scan done as a 3d scan and it was unreal !!!!

We got ours done in Brisbane in Spring Hill at a place called
Diagnositc Imaging for Women
75 Astor Terrace Spring Hill.

As far as I know though you have to ask for a referral from your ob before you call up and book an appt. Thats what our dr did anyways. We requested 3d and he just referred us to where he refers to get them done.

We got a whole sheet of 3d pics which weren't that great but still very cool.
We also didn't take a video but you could purchase one for $5. We got the 3d footage taped onto video and now my husband has since copied it onto a dvd for us to keep forever. We got our little girl sucking her thumb etc ... it is definately worth it.
The cost all up was about $200 up front but we got about $100 or so back from medicare. We thought it was definately worth spending the money !!!!!!!

Hope this helps
kylie :p

We found that Qld Xray often put the pics (2D of course) on x-ray film. But we just found a copy shop to scan them into digital form for us. Then you can email them around and print them out at your leisure.
However - last scan we had done at Qld X-ray they also put them on a CD for us without us requesting it.

great to hear from anyone, thanks for the info. if i find one outside of brissy or even in i'll let you know. i also heard that it would cost about $200 upfront and i'd get about 1/2 back on medicare. it'd be worth it for me! i'm dying to know what's going on in there! :p

Hi Mel,
I have just had a baby at Selangor in Nambour and tried and tried to find somewhere on the coast to do it to but there is no one I was able to find. QDI at Caloundra (Next to MCDonalds) and also Cotton Tree will print pics for you no probs if asked in 2D of course otherwise I have heard heaps of good things about the place in spring hill. Who is your OB? PM me if you want any more local info.

It may not be good news but be aware that even IF you do get a 3D scan taken bub may not be in a good position. I attempted to have one last week and came away without any 3D images :( - it is very dependant on the position of your baby. Mine was being camera shy- in the end although it'd be nice to have, it's not the end of the world if you don't get one as long as your standard 2D scan lets know you and your baby are healthy. The lady before me was unfortunate and didn't get a picture either.

Good luck though

I actually phoned the Diagnostic imaging for women and they were so polite :) my doctor has'nt been helpful this whole process he has said 'your pregnant, congratulations & see you later'. no explanation on what's next etc. then I phoned the mater Hospital (where I am reffered to) and they said they would give me a call back (after being put through 6 times)and I am still waiting 1 week later. I just want to know if everything is alright and I can't seem to even find out that. can anybody give me some advice?

Sounds like no ones being very helpful to you, so you have had your ultrasound and thats all they have said? Usually the doctor who gave you the referal to get the ultrasound asks for the images to be sent back to him so maybe you could make another appoitment with your doctor to view your ultrasound and if there not there he will chase them up for you, next time u have an ultrasound tell them you want to wait for the images and you will take them to your doctor on your next visit, thats what i did! Hope this helps? Let me know how thing go and all the best :)

Hi There

I went to Diagnositic Imaging for Women, 75 Astor Terrace Spring Hill to have 3D ultrasound done. I went once at 18 weeks and again at 31 weeks. Both times I got 3D photos and video, which were fantastic. I thoroughly recommend it. I had Dr Pritchard, and he spent about an hour each time with us showing us all different parts of the baby, and explaining what he was checking for as he went along. From memory it costed about $200, which I think we got about half back on Medicare, so it's well worth it, as you have little mementos of your pregnancy to show your baby when they're older.

Good luck with it all.
