hi there
I dont know if there is a right age or not but as long as bubs can hold her head up properly she should be ok. Our doctor said around the 5-6 month age was fine. My little one has been in his since around 5 months of age & he absolutely loves it!! They are great when you need to get a few of the household chores done! Quiet often i will put it in the kitchen & bubs will watch me do the dishes or get dinner ready or if we have friends over for a bbq i just set it up outside, pop him in it and he is in his glee!! I'd be lost without mine!!

6 weeks! That's really young for a jolly jumper.
Bub should have good body strength and be able to hold his head up with ease. I've only just started my son in his at 5 months. He shouldn't have any of that ulta-wobbliness that really little babies have. A good indicator is if your bub will stand on your lap/the floor whilst you hold his hands, if he can stand without wobbling too much for a decent period, hold his head up and look around with ease, try him in the jj.
Just a word of warning.... jolly jumpers have been researched and foudn that they can cause spinal damage... they compact the spine.. when your child is ready developmentally and physically to be able to jump on their own without aid.. this is the time they should be jumping. jolly jumpers have been found to be dangerous in compacting the spine and there have been incidents of children stretching the jumpers boundaries and being flung up hitting the doorframe. I would be very hesitant in putting any child in a jolly jumper. Just thought I'd pass on the info.

We first put our little man into his jolly jumper at 6 months and he loves it as it is set up outside in the patio, he gets to laugh at the dog running around the yard. I had also heard that there were some research done into jolly jumpers however i feel that if they are not in it constantly it cant be too bad. Jakes jolly jumper is located at his granmas so its his treat when he goes over. He has a ball in it. Probably good exercise aswell. lol. more than mummy gets lol...:smiliedance:
My bubby got his for christmas so at the time he was almost 6 months old, he loved it from the start!
I have heard spinal damage may occur if you put bub in it;
for extended periods (+half an hour at a time)
before the muscles in the neck and back are strong enough
too low, bubs feet should JUST reach the ground when he/she isn't jumping, too low can jar his/her back.
Used properly and carefuly they are fantastic and of very little risk. :smiliedance:
Thanks everyone for the advice the one we were given has it's own stand so we don't have to put in the door way.

Good Advice Tommy's mum!!!!
I heard that jolly jumpers are better for their spines than other baby items (e.g. sitting stations or walkers??) cause in a jolly jumper the babies are slightly tilted forward and most of the weight is put on their tummies - not their spines??!!
Jack has been in his since about 10 weeks old?? and he had really good head control at that time.. It took Jack a good month before he REALLY figured out what he was doing- but he still loved the independent 'up' time.. he now ADORES it- cause he has figured out the jumping thing :D
- I haven't heard of any spinal injuries connected to the JJ... I used one.. as did my brother.. and DH... none of us have any dramas... I dont doubt that injuries happen if bubs is left in too long.. or isn't put in properly  but it is just toooo much fun to not do!!! ( as soon as I knew I was pregnant I told mum I wanted one :smiliedance: )
happy jumping!!!
xx
Yes, great advice Tommy Bub's mummy!
My DD has just started - she has been in hers twice and is 4months old now. She loves it. Still not too sure what to do in it yet, but that will come!
I hope your children enjoy it, too.
Love,
Nan. xx
I wanted to buy my DD a jolly jumper but my MIL said they stop them from walking:rolleyes: So I couldn't get one! Do you think this is true? She says because they put there toes on the floor in the jumper, then when they try and walk they will go up on their toes:confused:
What do you think???

hmmm I dont think so - I've seen kids who never had a jumper walk on their toes... and I had a jumper and according to mum (who is NEVER wrong  ) I didn't walk on my toes at all...
I think if a kid is going to walk on their toes- they will ... jumper or no jumper
xxx
ps - how often are MILs right??? (oooh naughty me :shame: )
The first few times Tom pulled himself up to standing he tried to go up on his toes, but very quickly learned it's easier to stand flat footed! He's already almost walking
Give bubs some credit ;) they all learn eventually
A jolly jumper is one of the first things we bought. I can't wait to see him in it.

My dd went into her jolly jumper for the first time at around 3.5mths. Only for a short time, she had verry good head control and control of her body. I think you should determine it by head control and body strength as some babys are different. But I dont think you shoould put them in one under 3 mths.
