Since getting pregnant my female dog has become very clingy and protective. I can’t move from one room of the house to another without her being by my side. When she was at the vet last week he said if he didn’t know better he’d say she was pregnant by the way she’s acting. Which can’t be so as she’s been fixed?

Has anyone else had the same reaction from their animals?

Dogs can smell your hormones and they do know when you are pregnant. My dog used to sit by me all the time when I was pregnant, and wasn't boistrous or jumpy like usual.

Both my cat (neutered male) and dog (spayed female) have been driving me batty in the last few weeks. They hang around me constantly. The cat is insisting on sitting on my lap with his head in my belly. The dog seldom leaves my side. I'm sure they know, if not specifically that I'm pregnant, but at least sense that something is different!

with DD1 my mums female dog wouldn't leave me alone then the day before I went into labour all teh dogs wouldn't leave me be. And to be a little differant while pregnant with DD2 DH and I went out to visit 2 of our horses and one of the mares would not leave my tummy be, she had to have her nose constantly glued to my tummy the whole time we were out there. The mare has never had a foal before so it's not as if she knew from experiance what was going on inside.

When preg with DS my MIL cat would curl up on my belly, never came near me before then and then when i go around there now he does the same thing... also one morning i woke to find the dog sleeping next to me, my mum told me he was acting strange so she let him in and he didnt leave my side the whole day, half an hour after i got out of bed i got my 1st contraction, it was like he knew i was going to go into labour!!!!
