Hi,

Since Amy came along four months ago, I am even more determined to get rid of our original 70's shag pile carpet! I'm getting conflicting advice about the best way to go for choosing a child-proof carpet that will look good for years and be easy to clean, not show up dirt too much, etc. Some say 'don't get dark colours - they show the lint', others say 'don't get light colours - they show the dirt'. And then you have to choose a texture...plush, sisal....I'm more confused than when I started! Does anyone have any good carpet buying tips or recommendations for a type/colour of carpet?

Thanks:)

I wouldn't recommend sisal. We've got it and it's a bit harsh on DS's knees. We are building in a couple of months and are going t get a nice plush carpet this time (in a brown colour).

maybe do what my mum did recently when they were buying new carpet - she just asked for the colour that was the closest colour to dirt that they had in the shop because my step-dad is worse than any kid.

there are a lot of carpets nowadays that are stain resistant so perhaps one of them is the way to go but it depends on how much you want to spend.

we've got a very light green carpet and my DS use to throw up on it when he started crawling around especially after he'd had his bottle and I was forever scotchguarding it but then all you'd see were these lighter coloured patches everywhere.

so for my first mother's day pressie my DH bought me a you beaut carpet shampooer which is great so no more messy carpets and I can do it at my leisure without having to get a carpet cleaning company to come out.

good luck!!!!!

Thanks ladies for the advice.

We have now chosen a soft plush in a not too dark, not too light green colour. I'm sure Amy will appreciate it once she is crawling.

Have a good weekend. :)
