Hi there!
I'm organising one, too. I'm combining both her 1st bday and Naming Day on the same day.
Anyhow, here are some of the things I've already thought of doing/having:
* Spit Roast Catering (it's in Aug).
* Celebrant: Anne Mathieson. Her email is: marry.u@bigpond.net.au - she's based in Manly.
* Other site of celebrants: michellehack.com.au/NamingCeremony.pdf
* Name Day site: rites of passage.com.au/pages/SampleNaming
* I googled these words: naming day baby...
* Cake: either Michele Patisserie or Cheesecake shop photo cake.
* Venue: thinking of having the ceremony at a lake or just have it all in one place which is mum's place.
* Theme: oriental, holiday look... unless little chookie starts liking pink fairies, etc.
* Invites: Artwise in Enmore has a huge range of stationery to make your own invites.
* Favours: www.kardellakreations.com.au has a huge range of boxes, invites, packaging, etc.
It's almost like organising a wedding... on a much smaller (and cheaper) scale, of course.
'hope this has helped...cindy.

This is the second time around for us, still I am rushing trying to find readings and a song!! The celebrant usually offers heaps of readings for you to choose from, I have only just booked ours in for may 28th. She was our celebrant from our wedding and dd naming day. So much to plan at dd I didnt do thank you gifts but I will this time with a thank you message as last time it took me forever to find the time to send the thank you notes!
my dd was done at 9mnths and same with my ds, although it isn't the best of days in may!!
Look forward to comparing notes..

Hello! I have just held the Naming Day for my son (15 weeks). I used a Celebrant to conduct the ceremony. My advice is to shop around. I paid $150 for my ceremony and the celebrant brought all her own gear and didn't charge any additional money for extra travel etc like some do (at a rate of $1 per klm both ways). Shop around for your celebrant. Don't choose one who's going to rush your ceremony to get to another event.
I got special 'Commemorative Candles' made for my son which included a photo, full name, date of birth, weight and length on it as well as a poem.
During the ceremony, the godparents together lit one of the candles as a commitment of their promise to be part of my son's life. I gave Commemorative Candles to the godparents and grandparents as gifts also.
Afterwards, we held a 'Welcome To The World' party/barbecue.
The Celebrant also gave me and the godparents certificates - at no additional charge.
I bought a little suit for my son from a lady in Bundaberg who makes them and charges only $34 (I can give you her number if you like). She makes them in black and cream with white shirts underneath. She makes all sizes. I bought a little bowtie to go with it from a kids clothing store for $5.
Pictures of the ceremony can be seen here (also if you want to see the candle) - http://www.alyandxavier.com/naming%20ceremony%20photo%20gallery.htm
Some people do the Naming Ceremony in conjunction with a 1st birthday party - but I'm too impatient!
Good luck with the Naming! Email me at aly@alyandxavier.com if you want more info...
