View Full Version : Very active 8 month old!
My DD has never been one of those babies who'll lie back and relax in her pram, or cuddle up to me, or just lie quietly in her cot or mat. She is extreamly active. She never stops moving. So much so that lately changing nappies, dressing her, feeding her and bathing her has become a nightmare. She NEVER sits still! Even when she's asleep, she trashes around in her cot.
Is this normal for babies of this age to be so active? Or do I just have a very figgety 8 month old...

I have one of those children :devil6: :p
She sounds really intelligent and really advanced, it's hard work but my advice would be to make the whole house babyproof - or just the living area and block off everything else. Babygates are your friend! :D Make the environment safe, and basically let her play. And make the backyard a child's haven and have lots of outside time. Someone recently told me that their high-spirited child is "like a puppy (in a good way!) - he needs to burn off his energy outside otherwise he comes inside and destroys the furniture" This is true for my son.

Oh YES!!! Very normal. For me personally it has got harder. Ds is now 16months old, he is soooo active, sometimes I just cant keep up:D. He has gone from 2 naps a day to 1 nap a day, more work for mummy.
katie i have one of those babies too. Chelsea is dreadful when it comes to nappy changes these day, i don't even use the change table anymore as its too dangerous with how much she moves around...though that means i change her on the floor and as soon as i take her nappy off she flips over and crawls away from me.
As as you say dressing and bath time and wresting her into the highchair and pram is not easy at all either......

That's my DD too. She hardly ever hugs me and always pushes me away. She hates being restricted, and absolutely cannot stand being in the car seat.
Nappy changes are terrible for me too. She is constantly twisting and turning so she can go off crawling somewhere. And she crawls SO fast now you really have to be quick to get her.

My 9 month old DS is exactly the same!
His legs are pumping all the time... In his car seat, pram, high chair.
Now he's crawling, there's no stopping him.
Sometimes I wish I had a cuddly baby, but it just means I have to soak it up on the rare occasions he will just cuddle quietly!

As soon as Ds see's me with a clean nappy, he runs away from me. I have to chase him around the table. Wait until she starts walking;)

yep, us to. clea is non-stop unless she is really tired and bfing. nappy changes are so bad i am starting a potty this week because i am sick of fighting with her.
she started walking at 9 months and now at 14 months she runs everywhere... tiring for me... can drive you nuts.... i agree with the_queen, get into the habit of going outside just for your sanity...

Sounds like my 7 month old Daughter!
She twists and turns in her cot and on the change table, we call her wriggly worm!!!
I have a tip : When you go to the change table, put a sticker on their hand. THey are sooo memorised with the sticker for a few minutes it will give you enough time to do a nappy and a quick clothes change.
At gymbarro, my name label that i wear is like icecream for DD!! When she was born everyone said how alert and active she is, but being our first we didnt know the difference.
I guess its a good thing in the long run!!!!!!
 Well I'm glad she's not the only one! Allycat i'll try the sticker when changing her. I've tried toys, but she still twists and turns and it makes it impossible to put a nappy on. Usually I'm chasing her down the hall with a nappy as she quickly crawls away from me...
Marna, Lily pushes me away too. As soon as I pick her up, she pushes me and just wants to get back on the floor.
The car is terrible too. She hates been restricted for too long, so I avoid going on long trips if I can.
