I was from Mackay (moved away last year) and highly recommend Dr Judy Gardner. I actually saw another Dr during pregnancy, but she was rostered off so ended up with Judy - she was fantastic! And she's a no gap Dr too! I saw her a lot after having bub (had a few probs) and she was so accommodating - she gave me her mobile number and said call anytime!

Gp's i can't help with as mine moved just before i did.

MMM - Hi! I have a 2year old (that is proving to be a :devil6: at the moment!) and a 11mth old, (We live 30minutes south from Mackay in Sarina.) Last year I saw Dr Lance Herron - he was fantastic! I had a rather difficulty pregnancy and both him & his midwife Annie are fantastic!!! Bonus is he is also a no gap doctor!

Oh and Mackay Mater is FANTASTIC!!!! Sorry can't offer you anything good about the Mackay Base.....

What was the hopsital like?

Mater was great, one middie was quite rude (night shift) but my sister said she is no longer there (after many complaints), other than that the Middies were fantastic. Little coffee shop in the foyer and a florist (that everyone has to walk past to come and see you ;) ) and a chemist (in which i found the cutest baby shoes when i went for a wander). Food was okay (really, it's hospital food...), birth suites were nice, roomy...

Feel free to ask more!

Good luck with the move!

My friend had two of her bubbies at the base and said the same thing :) was apparently far better than some of the other hospitals she's since given birth in

I didn't mean for it to come across like it was bad.... just from the few people i have spoken they haven't had good experiences...

I haven't had any experience first hand with the base thats all....

mmm, ok one for the public sector! - the base is a great hospital! i had my first 2 babies at the mackay birth centre (a little building out the back of the maternaity ward) it was great, especailly whent eh need came to rush ds1 over to the nicu, it was a 10 second walk!, and the girls there are awsome, the base its self are great too, granted you have the couple of idiots that evey place has - just try and get a female doc in the maternity ward while you are there and you will be fine. the base handled my 29week admission -due to preterm labour, really well - they threatend to send me to townsville! (as they are not equipted for a baby that early), but alas we stopped labour and sent me home, on ly to return at 32 weeks with ruptured membranes!!! (i believe i was attention seeking this pg! lol), but they did really good, and did try very egerly to give me a natural delivery (induction!!!), the only thing that ****ed me off, was the male night doc that refuesed to take me up for my c-sect - that i was told would happen that night if i hadnt startted dilating (by the female doc), all becasue he didnt want to have to do any real work that night - he did get his head bitten off the next morning when dr patel came in and noticed i was still in labour & delivery!
they also did really well with bubs in the nicu, the girls in there were awsome!, one actually told me to have a go at breast feeding bub - when he wasa 3 days old - even though they are not supose to be able to suck at that age - little smart **** held on for 5 mins!!!.
they were all in all very supportive, and helpful, and i stayed in the hospital for almost the entire time bub was there, i only left 2 days before he came home (not knowing he was comming home) so that i could go spend a day with the big kids, and i basically left bub in there hands for the day - and they were the ones to encourage i go spend the time with the big kids.

hummm so over all, they are great! lol
(yeah im stalling, i should be doing an assignment!!! :banghead: )
