My 10mth old daughter has to bottom teeth and a couple of weeks ago the top two appeared. Ever since the top two came in she sits there and grinds them and it sounds horrible!:dizzy:
I was wondering if it's normal and how do I stop her from doing it! I'm worried it's going to wreck her teeth as I think there's a chip missing already. Thankyou

my 1yr old has just started doing it and he grinds them that hard i think he is going to snap his teeth off! It is the most horrible noise in the world! It makes me cringe and almost cry!!!

I think its normal and i have no idea how to stop it. Im sure it is just a phase! i was going to ask this question the other day!!

I usually just stick my finger in his mouth to stop it and i try to distract him to play with something and it usually works. Its worst at feed time!

EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK im thinking about it now! Yuck!

I know! I cringe to! makes my blood go cold! I've tried putting my finger in her mouth but she bites me lol! If I give her a rusk or fruit she takes a bite, eats it and the grinds, ewwwww!

Yep, DS went through a stage of doing this too. Drove me batty!!! :dizzy: He has stopped doing it but he still does it occassionly, im sure your daughter is just facinated with these new 'things' in her mouth as my DS was, and will stop doing it soon enough. :D

I started a thread on this very subject about 4 months ago...

It turned out that my DS had an ear infection.

You're right, Jax... it's the most horrible noise in the world!!!:barf:

Ezaria did that too once she'd popped them out at the top and bottom. I think she did it for a month or two then just stopped doing it one day (thank goodness!).

Yip it's the most horrible sound and I cringed every time I heard it, but luckily like most of the odd little things they do, it is just a phase.

She'll get bored of it soon enough and move onto something else to bewilder you with!

Sarah whos just over 10 months has been doing it since her top two popped up also and its funny she just picks her time to grind and away she goes.

I try and distract her as she doesnt do it constantly but she will do it daily. Its funny when her top two teeth appeared (that morning in bed when we were co sleeping) she was grinding away. DH said how can that be when she hasnt got any top teeth. Surely enough, that morning we discovered two top teeth had cut through!

It must feel very weird to be getting two top teeth also considering there was nothing there before. She pulls funny faces too and does strange things with her tongue now that she has these teeth too!

Most of the time they grow out of it eventually. My DD started when she was about 10 months too and is now 13 mths and I havent heard her do it for a while now....

Just distract her when she does it or give her a teething ring to bite on instead. :)

Hi, does anyone notice their older children grind their teeth at night? My DS, 5 years old does that very often. It's bad for your teeth, because it puts a lot of pressure on them, but what do you do?
The dentist says it's very common and there's not much you can do about it.
Does anyone have tips?
