View Full Version : 13 week old changing sleep patterns?
Hi
DS is 13 weeks now and after some initial sleeping problems he was sleeping through the night from about 7 weeks until last week. He is really hard to initially put down which he wasn't before and is only sleeping 3-4 hours and then waking up every hour after that. He is sometimes taking an hour to put back to sleep too, I have no idea why he's suddenly changed.
Is this normal and just a growth spurt?? I'm hoping it doesn't last I'm a walking zomie!! :hair:

It sounds like its a growth spurt, with indie and dd3 i know they had theirs at 6 weeks 12 weeks and then now indies having another one now. Is there anything that you have changed that could have caused it? Is he ok in general i mean can you rule out everything else like teething or change in diet etc (if your feeding)
I would put it down to a growth spurt, give him a few days he should settle down soon. How long does he cry before you get him up. Generally indie will go down and wake up 45 mins later look around give a gurgle and lay there for 5 minutes then go back to sleep. At first i was picking her up and getting her out LOL but i soon worked out that with no fuss she would settle herself again so learnt to leave her there.
Maybe try popping him in bed with you or even try a nice relaxing bath around dinner time i have found this really relaxed bubs and helps them realise that its bed time.
Fingers crossed he doesnt do it for too long, although his still quiet young but if you can rule out any medical problems it does sound normal :) Good luck!
Wow, so my son is not the only one! Last week at 12 weeks he just would not sleep or eat during the day. He was such a relaxed baby and then-stresses! I was so worried that it would be a new change that would stay.
I think it must have been a growth spurt though at the time I thought he might have been getting sick or something. (no temp)
Good news is he is back to sleeping and eating this week. I have not done anything different, so i hope that phase has stopped. I hope your baby does that too, it may just be that same stage growth spurt.

Growth spurt, absolutely
Growth spurts continue throughout the first 2 years of life, and beyond obviously, but in terms of broken sleep, you should never expect a baby to sleep through until age 2, and if they do it before then, it's a bonus :)
I would think it's a growth spurt too, DS' sleeping patterns changed at least every fortnight because of them.
DS is 3.5 and he still doesn't sleep through properly.
Try not to focus so much on sleep and his sleep changes, he's still so little, you'll drive yourself batty, trust me, I did!
The exact same thing has happened with my 15 week old. Previously he was a little legend sleeper and now waking every 1 from 3am onwards. I am hoping it is a phase, I'm not really sure what to do with him though. He really just needs reassurance when I go in through the night and he happily nods off to sleep again for another hour.
