View Full Version : Regular ultrasound or internal ultrasound?
I'm due to have another scan next Wednesday (5 March). I'll be 9wks, 5ds. Will the ob do a regular ultrasound or an internal one? I don't really mind but I want to know if I should pee beforehand! The appt is at 8:15am so I can hold it if needs be. My understanding is that a regular ultrasound requires a full bladder, but that it's more comfortable to have an empty bladder if you have an internal ultrasound. All advice appreciated. :)

Ring the place and ask. In part it depends on who is doing it.
I had an external US at 12 weeks with DS, and the US specialist doing the scan sent me out to pee part way through the scan, and I was told not to fill up on water beforehand.

Phone first but you will find that you should be right to have a normal scan you should be far enought along which means full bladder. If they have no luck with that one then they will do the internal scan in which case they will get you to empty your bladder then. At least that is what happened to me last tuesday but I was only 7 weeks.

My scan at my 10 week appt for Lachie was an external but would have been an internal if required.
