My dd has a fever and is quite upset, I have given her a dose of dimatap (she can't stomach panadol, it makes her throw up) at 5.30pm but it doesn't seem to be making any difference, her temp hasn't come down at all. How long do you allow for it to kick in, thnking maybe I need to get her to a doctor as she normally handles fevers really well and she isn't handling this one very well at all.

I don't think Dimetapp will reduce fevers??? Its for drying up nasal congestion and runny watery eyes etc.

If she can't stomach panadol , you can get them in suppository form or you could try panamax elixir, for use from 1 month of age.

Hope that helps cheers Jen.

Also I think Panadol etc takes 20 mins to kick in

Thanks JenNT,
I went and checked and it's actually dymadon which says is for fevers, still isn't going down.

Have you tried childrens Nurofen? It works very well for both my DD and DS.
DD had a temp of 39.4 last week and Nurofen along with a tepid bath brought down her temp fairly quickly. If you are worried you can ring 13 432584 and speak to an RN and get some advice. Hope your little girl feels better soon.

If the fever isn't reducing in say 20 - 30 mins get thee to a doctor. How high is it?

I hope your little ones gets better soon.

Thanks guys for your replies, her temp has dropped a little now and she is a little happier at the moment, so will just keep a close eye on her tonight.
