My sisters little girl had a serious allergic reation yesterday, a rash and swollen lips, and we were discussing a safe temp range as she has been 38.1 all day.

And I have been told to add a degree to the digital under arm thermometres. I have an ear one and it is a real pain in the ***

I cant seem to find on the instructions how accurate it is.

What do you use and what is the temperature range that is safe is it 36-37?

Thanks Courtney:D

Courtney,

I don't even take the kids temperature, I judge with a kiss on the forehead and feeling their tummy. Growing up I always thought that 37.5 was normal, but doctors don't seem to be worried about low 38s even.

try ringing 13health, the nurses have always given me good advice when I have rung.

I hope she is fine.

38+ is my idea of a bad temp. Worthy of getting a dr involved.

I hope shes getting over it

Hmm if i were to use the kiss the forehead one I would be worried most the time thats all, as dd2 is SOOOOOO hot to touch.
She wakes up in profuse sweats.

Hmm my ear thermometre that I bought is an Ormon i think.

The important thing is how is the child?

If they are interesting in playing, not too miserable and drinking fluids ok then a temp up to 40+ can be ok.

Look at the child not the numbers...

I have seen kids with meningococcal disease whose temp was less then but they looked awful!!

Your nieces temp may be her body's reaction to the insult of the allergic reaction, or she may be unlucky and be coming down with something else as well.

Hope she's feeling better soon.
