View Full Version : Pest Control During Pregnancy
Hi Ladies,
Has anyone had any experience with pest control during prenancy? Does anyone know if it is safe to get your home done?
We are overdue for our 12 monthly pest control, and the spiders are coming out of the woodwork!! Wouldn't be so bad, except that I am a complete arachnophobe, and we have discovered a couple of redbacks in the last week (outside).
The problem as I see it is that I won't want to get it done even once bubba arrives (to protect them), so maybe I should just go to my folks place overnight and let hubby deal with it here? Any advice?

Hi Fiona,
I used to work as the sales rep for pest managment at a large company here in south east qld. It was a very common question "Is it safe to have the house done while im pregnant"
Pest Control Companys Answer:
Yes, it is safe. But would be best if you had it done in the morning an then went out for the day as soon as they have finished.
My Answer:
I used to tell people a couple of things.
You are best to have it done now then too leave it for when there is a baby @ home that you need to disrupt by taking out for the day. I also used to tell them that it would be ideal if they could have it done, lock the house up and maybe stay somewhere else for the night. leave DP at home that night to air it out. Also i would suggest taking the sheets of your bed and then re making it the following day when you get home.
Alll of these companys have tested and feel confident that the chemicals used have no harming effect on a pregnant women. However i personally would nt take the chance.
Hope this helps..?

When i worked in the childcare centre, they used to get it sprayed regularly. They said it was best to allow 24 hours before bringing the kids back in. So i would assume it would be the same with pregnancy etc.
I would suggest if possible, getting DH to get it done and going to your mums overnight.
Thanks Ladies, really appreciate your responses.
Will get it done now, leave hubby to air the place out, strip the bed before using it afterwards and vacate for 24 hours!
I just had my DH spray the place with those DIY supermarket Mortein indoor/oudoor packs. I figured if they sell it for DIY it can't be too dangerous.
He did it while I was away for the day and he will clean up the spider invasion in a few days.
I was really surprised! No chemical smell whatsoever, and all the spiders are dead.
But then I am nearly at the end of my pregnancy anyway. I probably wouldn't have had it dome in the first 6 months.
