View Full Version : Soy formula and reflux meds??
DS2 who is nearly 6 months has been diaganosed with a milk intolerance and has been put on soy formula. He also is taking gasvicon and zantac due to his reflux. I am wondering what his poos should look like as we have had no consistancy in the last 2 weeks???
Thanks

My bub is CMPI and Soy intolerant she was on Zantac and I tried soy milk but she reacted to it with hives. After going on to pepti jnr it took about a month for her to have normal bowel movements because all of the diarreha had striped the lining of her bowel.
I am not to keen on soy milk for babies or women because of the hormonal effects it can have. There have been a few threads on here that you may want to read through. I know that they make you trial it as we had too, if you are not concerned I would give your bub a bit longer if he has had runny frothy poo like mine had it may take a bit longer to change.
I know that Zantac can also effect the way bubs poo but it wasn't a prob for us.
What formula are you both using? My son is just trialling soy now - I asked the paediatric surgeon and the paediatrician whether there were any issues with soy milk for boys and they both said no. I just purchased S26 but wondered what you found the best.
My Natroupath advised me against soy because of the hormonal effects it causes (esp for boys). Our paed also told us he wouldn't have left DD3 on it (She had an allergic reaction) because there haven't been enough studies done for his liking to support its use in infants.
DD3 is on Pepti Jr as she is CMPI, they made me tourture her and try just about every formula going!!! She eventually got into see the paed when she wouldn't drink anything, and where I live you can't buy these formulas over the counter you have to have a script.
Have you tried the HA formuals and did the paediatricians give you any alternatives. I am not an expert in these matters the older threads might be more useful. :hugs:
I did specifically ask about soy and hormones and both said nothign to worry about - they consult at Sydney Children's Hospital. I will ask next time about Pepti Jr as I have never heard of it. My paed said the one from Aldi is as good as any!
I know actual soy milk as opposed to soy formula is not recommended.
Do what you are happy with, many babies that have a reaction to cows milk protien will also have a reaction to soy milk. So see how you go your bub could be fine on the soy. We used Karicare I'm not sure if theres a best one and if your baby is happy on the S26 I would stick with it :).
