Hi we went out bush yesterday and ds (3)took his shoes off (dh let him:hair:) anyway he has complained of sore feet this afternoon and when i put him in the bath tonight and looked at them they are covered in prickles/ little thorns. I managed to get 1 out (there is roughly 10-15 in both feet) then he screamed the house down the neighbours would have thoughti was literally killing him. I bathed them in dettol and manged to scrape another out at the same time but he wont let me tuch him and he is ok now but walks funny.

My question is will bathing them in dettol be ok until i take him to the dr in the morning? or should i worry about it now and take him to the hospital??? he isnt upset unless he walks flat foot.

I personally think bathing them in dettol and leaving them to work themselves out is fine - my kids have never let me take splinters out of them, and they've survived (no tetanus vax either  ;))

But if you do want the doctor to have a look at them, tomorrow morning will be fine IMO.

Soaking the feet in very hot water (ie as hot as he can handle) will help the skin to be soft enough to try to get them out when he's asleep. There's some homeopathic salves that will help the splinters work their way out - I know that but I don't know the name of them because I've never had need for them.

:hugs: poor wee man, hope his footsies are better soon :hugs:

There's a cream available from the chemist called magna-plasm that can help draw out splinters and infection.

I'd also take him to the Doctor if they are so numerous and infected. Don't mess about with foot infections. They can be really nasty, just ask my DH who was 12 hrs from being hospitalised with a foot infection recently.

update..................................

i took him to the dr and they got roughly 5 out but he has alot more. She also opened a couple more up so they might work there way out, he is still complaining they are sore so she said if the gets worse take him back today as they are in his inner sole/arch part of his foot and he will have to be semi sedated as he wont cope with the pain. hopefully they will work their own way out:fingerscrossed:

ps with the cream from the chemist she said i would have to bandage his feet and not let him walk on them for awhile so they penetrate it and being 3 thats nearly impossible
