All the time, recipes tend to evolve. The trick is not to tell people what you are cooking until there is a finished product, that way if it is completely different to what you intended to cook no-one knows!

speaking of blueberries..........when I was about 12 I made mum a batch of blueberry muffins on mothers day. I accidently used bi carb instead of baking powder........they came oout with a lovely green tinge to them and were kind of salty - yum!

I know what you mean. It is quite disappointing. I tried to make a Mickey Mouse birthday cake and it looked possessed, very scarey. He loved it though - no accounting for taste:laughing:

Now see, you could stick a coin in the middle and call it a Sunken Treasure Cake or for the fall to pieces one - Earthquake Cake

Once while trying to make a chocolalate cream cake filling, I whipped it so hard that it turned to butter! I'm obviously an overly enthusiastic baker

my cakes always seem to be lop sided :S

Put some green icing mixed with coconut, stick a plastic tree on the tall side and voila you have a hill.

Oh god.

I once made a really nice pasta thingy - fettucine, some steamed broccoli florets, herbs, butter... should have been fantastic.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get any fettucine that day, so I bought lasagna sheets and cut them into fettucine myself. Resourceful old me.

Unfortunately, I forgot to add any oil to the pasta water - lasagna pastry isn't quite the same stuff - so 5 seconds after draining it, at stuck together in the pan: one giant claggy ball of white spongy stuff with bits of broccoli stuck out at odd angles.

Ew ew ew ew ewww.

A mass of pasta, nice one.

Last monday it took me 3 attempts to make a cheesecake. 1st time I somehow only put in half the cream cheese and only realised after it had mostly baked. Sent DH shopping for more and tried again, only to forget the sugar. :banghead: Realised my mistake only a few minutes after putting it in the oven so pulled it out, scooped out all the filling, added sugar and put it back. Final result was great, but getting there was a disaster!

I know this is a little different, but the eww factor is worth it

When I was about 10 I wanted to make my mum & dad pancakes with jam and cream for breakfast.

They were impressed and started eating away but my dad kept saying "the cream is off or something" I replied that it was with the due date and that I might have added too much icing sugar. He had another mouthful and said "there's definitely something wrong - get me the container".

I brought out the tub of "sour cream" which I had added about a cup full of icing sugar to sweeten!

ahahahahahahahahahahahaha. They still give me hell about that to this day.

can't wait for those memories with my own kiddies!

DH & I moved in together 2 years before we were married and our first Valentine's Day as a live in couple was approaching so I thought rather than go out for dinner I'd make him a 4 course meal.

He loves oysters so I thought for the first course I'd make him Oysters Kilpatrick. 2nd course was a Roast Capsicum Soup (made from scratch), Main was a Curried Chicken dish & I cheated with dessert as I took on a bit much with the other 3 courses so resorted to the supermarket freezer section - can't remember what it was.

Anyway the big event arrived and I had the table all set up lovely and sat the goregous red roses he bought me and the big white fluffy teddybear.

He said down with such anticipation rubbing his hands together and I served up the oysters. I sat across the table from him waiting for his response. Poor bugger he nearly choked on the spot, his face went as red as a beetroot and he was gasping for air. He had sweat pouring down his face and I ran over to the sink to get him a glass of water. When he was finally able to speak he said in the nicest possible way "my goodness what is the sauce you have put on here". I told him the recipe said Worcestershire & Tabasco Sauce but it didn't specify the quantities of each so I just splashed away what I thought.

Poor bugger - you know he sat, sweated, gasped and smiled (barely) all the way through it and ate the whole dozen I made him - I told him not to but being the sweetie that he is he continued on.

Mind you he was a bit dubious about eating the rest of my culinary delights but luckily for me they turned out ok.

I've never lived it down though as the oyster story still comes up every now and then and he has much pleasure in telling people.

reminds me of my first year of cooking at high school. We were making sponge cakes and I forgot to move the top rack in the oven up to allow for the sponge to rise. Needless to say my cooking teacher was not very impressed when she looked in my oven as my cake had risen through the above rack.

I actually did this not long ago...I forgot to add the butter!
Unfortunately it was going to be for afternoon tea with the inlaws:thumbsdown:
So, I sawed it into very thin slices, dusted it with icing sugar and said it was traditional Sicilian Chocolate Biscotti!

Howdy all!
I once was making a lovely tuna pasta mornay, and instead of putting cornflour in, I accidentally put in icing sugar  And I didn't even cotton even when I couldn't work out why the sauce wasn't thickening! So we sit down and go to eat the watery dish (ho hum!) and as soon as I tasted it I knew! It was just vile! And did I feel like an idiot! How embarrassing!
