OK, so Ive just about given up trying to find a 4 wheel pram with large tyres, so I'm going to have a look at 3 wheelers. Can anyone recommend a make/madel that would have the following features;

Lightweight
Can totally remove all lining/materials for washing (I have a thing about dirty prams..)
Lockable front wheel, for going over really bumpy terrain. Is this a necessary feature? If you can also include approximate price that would be great too.

Also I'm very concerned about stability issues with 3 wheelers, I have heard they can tip over very easily.

Many thanks for any help.

I purchased a Phil & Teds pram when DD was born in October. I can either be used as a single pram or you can purchase a toddler seat to use it as a double which is great if your planning on having another.

I'd give it 9/10 for monourvering, it's very smooth and has a LOCKABLE FRONT WHEEL so you can go on rough terrain and sand etc.

I'd give it a 7/10 for weigh, it's a bit heavier than a standard 4 wheeler pram.

Price 7/10 it's a bit expensive (but Im a cheap ****) but it's probably worth it with all the features.

It cost me $550 for the pram and $99 for the toddler seat.

Everyone has them now though, they are really popular.

Lockable front wheels are good because if the wheel hits a crack or bump and gets stuck the whole pram will come to a halt and could tip.
The pram holds a total of 40kg, 20kg for each seat I think. Very strong.

I have a Red Castle Shop n Jogg. It's sturdy, safe & sporty. I have a very outdoor lifestyle so this pram really suited me. It has a lockable front wheel, disc breaks and adjustable suspension. It folds neatly and isn't too heavy. As the name suggests it's also good for shopping as it's narrow enough to fit through shopping aisles and maneuvers easily.

I got it for $799 but that included all accessories which with other brands you have to buy separately. DD is nearly a year now and I've not had a single problem or complaint and it's been walked to death!

Happy pram shopping! :smiliedance:

I recommend also, the Phil and ted pram. I havehad mine since February 07, and since then, the newer models have even more modifications. I purchased it for around the 600 mark, including toddler seat. It can be for newborn/toddler, toddler. It is designed so the heavier child go to the front, and smaller child at the back. It is also capable of holding 40kg (with toddler seat on). 15kg for lighter child, 25kg for older child.

My children are 3 and 13 months and i think this pram is just sensational!

The reason i love it so much, is because the toddler seat has back support so if your older child still falls asleep in the pram.

The only dwnside about this pram, is in the last 12 months i have had quite a few punctures and flat tyres. If they aren't pumped up properly, they will buckle. That is a common complaint i have found.

But if therewas the perfect pram, we would all have it!
Hope you find the one!

I was very concerned about 3 wheel prams so we got a Bertini Shuttle which is one of the only 4 wheel 4WD prams on the market. You can get toddler seats for them and they weigh just as much as a Phil and Teds and extremely sturdy. I have used mine for all 3 kids and it's still going strong and I can steer it one handed. You can lock the wheels so they go in a straight line or make them all turn. Awesome for all-terrain (gravel, holes etc).

Downside, reasonably large (fits in the boot of our corolla hatch with room for a few bags of groceries and you can't fit down all checkout isles due to the width.

Not sure if all lining comes out as I have a sheepskin in mine that I remove and it's also made of a fabric I can wipe down without any problems.

If I were to go a three wheeler, I would choose a Valco Rebel as you can add the toddler seat which can be positioned over the two wheels as well as the front wheel which makes it so sturdy. Again, it takes up a lot of room in the boot.

Not sure on the costs of these prams anymore. Bertini cost me about $400 in 2003 and the toddler seat $100. Check out ebay as people sell these two prams (and the Phil and Teds) all the time at a fraction of the cost.

Good luck.

We have a Valco 3 wheeler and it's great. I don't find it overly lightweight (but then again I've never actually picked up another 3 wheeler to compare with so maybe they are all like this?). It has a half and full lock mechanism at the front and really good brake. It goes great on bumps and getting up gutters etc. Love it
