View Full Version : Not a nice one - haemorrhoids

Unfortunately this is a yucky one but I'm hoping that someone will be able to shed some light on my pretty painful situation...

I have had a few problems with haemorrhoids since being pregnant with my 9mth old and they seem to have flared up again with a vengence!!!

I awoke on Saturday morning in agony and could hardly walk... I tried my rectinol cream but to no avail. I then booked an appt with my gp and was lucky to get one within 2 hours of calling. She was great and examined me to find that I had quite "large" as she put it, external haemorrhoids, that no cream would have helped. She then went on to explain how she would need to give me a local and lance them to relieve the pressure... I told her to "just do it" as I was in that much pain!!!

So sorry... I told you that this was an ugly one!!!!

She did this and sent me on my way, telling me to take some pain killers and have salt baths. This is what I have been doing and have slowly started to feel (and walk) a little better but today seems to be pretty agonising. I have made an appt to see her tomorrow again just to have it checked.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and what they did or had done to relieve it? I have heard of "tying them off" to prevent them from coming back. I also would like to know how long it takes for them to go down once you've had them "lanced"?

Any advice of suggestions on this rather "yucky" post would be greatly appreciated - it's killing me!!!!!:crying:

i suffer them to but mine don't sound that bad. i found proctosedyl cream helps which is what my doctor suggested though she never looked at them. I have heard of suppositries helping to though i cringe at the idea of those. My dr said that they can be surgically removed later on if need be.

Hi Girls, yeah I suffer on and off from these too. Just got them back yesterday. I normally use the proctosedyl suppositries but the chemist had run out so I got the cream for the first time and it seems to work the same.
kyeaj tying them off sounds a bit ******** to me kind of like docking a lamb.
I haven't actually had them externally so I suppose I'm lucky in that way.

Hi kyeaj.
My tip would be to go to a health shop and get yourself some Witch Hazel. My midwife recommended it after birth as I had pretty big ones, too. She was also a naturopath. I bought it in a little spray bottle for about $5 (you can also buy plain liquid form) and sprayed a small cotton pad with it until it was very wet and saturated the area with it. Sometimes I even kept the cotton pad in my undies for a while. Sorry if TMI! I only had to do this for a few weeks and they have never returned.

Also, I liked this option because it is completely natural. No drugs.

Hope this helps you.
Love,
Nan. xx

Hey Kyeaj, my mother actually had to have hers operated on as they were that bad, ( a heammharoidectomy!) but she says she wouldn't recommend it as it limits the amount your sphincter can "stretch" in the future.

I'd say listen to your doctor if you're comfortable with her usually.

My mum had them quite badly after the birth of my sister (12 years ago) and the hospital treated them with ultrasound! This was very effective and fantastic for pain relief too!! Though I have no idea where you would start to find out about it. Good luck!
